    S2:E5 Grayson Armstrong MD, MPH: Advocacy & Prevention in Sports Ophthalmology

    Dr. Armstrong shares a bit about his experience in the field of advocacy and his work with the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma. We discuss how both of these can positively impact the field of sports ophthalmology as well as ways to get involved at any point in your career! Dr. Grayson Armstrong is the Director of Ophthalmology Emergency Services at Mass Eye & Ear in Boston, MA. He received his MD degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, RI while concurrently receiving his Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his ophthalmology residency, his chief residency where he was director of the Ophthalmic Trauma Service, as well clinical fellowships in both telemedicine and medical retina at Mass Eye & Ear of Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. Dr. Armstrong is passionate about health policy and public health as well as ophthalmic telemedicine and healthcare technology.

    S2:E4 Kevin Everett, MD and David Goldman, MD, MBA: Detroit Team Ophthalmologists

    Dr. Everett and Dr. Goldman discuss concussion evaluations, refractive surgery for athletes, and future directions for the field of sports ophthalmology. They provide unique insight into the "concierge medicine" aspects of sports medicine. We cover the role of the sports ophthalmologist in caring for athletes in boxing, basketball, and football at the professional, collegiate, and amateur level. Dr. Kevin Everett and Dr. David Goldman are comprehensive ophthalmologists at Henry Ford Hospital and share responsibilities as team ophthalmologists for the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Lions. Dr. Everett received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his Ophthalmology residency in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Everett has worked with the Detroit Lions since 1999. Dr. Goldman received his medical degree at Saba Medical School and completed his Ophthalmology residency at Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Goldman currently serves as residency program director at Henry Ford Hospital, and he also helps provide care for the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Lions.

    S2:E3 Michael Harrell, Jr., MD: Caring for the San Antonio Spurs and Addressing Health Disparities

    Dr. Harrell shares about his experience taking on the role of head team ophthalmologist for the San Antonio Spurs. Jared and Dr. Harrell discuss game coverage, field equipment, and eye screenings. They discuss the role of eye screenings in addressing community health disparities, and Dr. Harrell shares pearls in navigating race-discordant doctor-patient relationships. Dr. Michael Harrell is a comprehensive ophthalmologist at UT Health San Antonio. He received his MD from Boston University School of Medicine, served for four years in the US Navy, and then returned to Boston Medical Center for ophthalmology residency, followed by a fellowship in medical retina at Northwestern. Dr. Harrell is an active member of the National Medical Association and has a strong commitment to mentoring medical students and increasing representation of underrepresented minorities in medicine and ophthalmology.     S2:E2 Andrew G. Lee, MD: Concussion, TBI, and the Neuro-Op of Refereeing

Dr. Andrew Lee is a neuro-ophthalmologist in Houston, TX. He received his MD degree and completed his internship year at University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and his neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Lee is the Chairman of the department of Ophthalmology for the Blanton Eye Institute at Houston Methodist Hospital. He also serves as a professor of ophthalmology, neurology, and neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and as adjunct professor of ophthalmology at the University of Iowa and Baylor College of Medicine.     Season 2, #1 Journal Club with Conor Malone and Sydney Dacey

    How are we doing?? Click ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠here⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠ to complete a brief, 2-minute survey. In this episode, we introduce our two new team members, Sydney Dacey and Conor Malone. We share our insights from the recent Eye Trauma 2024 meeting held by the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma, and dive into a recent article published within the field. We discuss swimming, hurling, and everything in between! Sydney Dacey is a rising 4th year medical student at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, RI. Originally from Massachusetts, Sydney received her bachelor of science degree in biology from Boston College. She was a competitive swimmer for 16 years and finished out her career competing for Boston College’s varsity team. While at Brown, she has led the Association of Women Surgeons, and been involved with the Rhode Island Free Clinic and numerous research studies. She will be applying into ophthalmology later this year. Conor Malone is a cataract surgery fellow who has trained in Ireland and the UK. He received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, as well as masters degrees in health informatics from University College Dublin and the University of Limerick. Conor’s research experience includes medical education and the application of technology in healthcare. He is interested in emergency ophthalmology and the prevention of eye injuries. Moe et al. Dr. Laby received his medical degree and completed ophthalmology residency at George Washington University and completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery at UCLA. Dr. Laby has worked with professional athletes in baseball, hockey, basketball, and olympic sports, contributing to eight professional baseball championship teams. Dr Laby has organized 3 International sports vision meetings and has organized and moderates the Sports Vision ListServ. He is frequently involved in sports vision scientific publications and was an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Harvard Medical School and served as Director of Sports and Performance Vision at the State University of New York College of Optometry.
