Seeking Serenity in Faith Serenity Smith

After three years of creating a home, cultivating a community, and discovering more about who I am, this chapter of my 20s ends here in Amsterdam, Netherlands. I share my thoughts about leaving the country and an enchanted city I called home. What I have learned about myself and generational cycles are broken and created. Ultimately, why am I leaving the Netherlands.

I'm excited to continue sharing as I seek and discover abroad.

Happy New Year! A year of self-forgiveness and hard truths of cycles that needed to end. Between love entanglements across Europe, the Atlantic, and the Pacific oceans. I am heading in a new direction in this New Year 2023, focused on more intentional love experiences, professional growth, and community experiences with those of different cultural backgrounds but aligned minds.

In my self-reflection and healing conversation, I share my perspective on what is "settling" maybe or not. Engaging with "dating" as data collection to recognize what does and does serve you but will challenge you to grow within your self.

In no particular, Serenity defines, shares, and explains her appreciation for the Netherlands. 

5. Social Life - In Europe meets her highest expectations. Her exposure to Amapiano music and solo travel to South Africa, passion for dancing, community, and enjoying each moment that she is present. Serenity shuts down the idea that dancing is clubbing. Instead, she calls it community gathering or socialization in spaces with connected interests. 



4. Quality of Life - As a native New York City (Queens) woman who is naturally all about the hustle and bustle. Her life now in Amsterdam, Netherlands, compared to living in NYC, Washington D.C., and Atlanta, Georgia, USA, she shares the vast differences and appreciations of it all. 



3. Introspective Growth - Navigating a space, culture, and community while seeking who Serenity is along the journey comes at a cost. Being an expat forces you to face isolation, sitting with those feelings and finding solutions. 



2. Self Confidence Booster - Say what you want. Being an expat requires you to put yourself OUT THERE! Be Bold or go home. It’s not everyone’s journey, but Serenity is appreciative of hers. 



1. Professional Advancement - From being an exchange student in England, UK, to interning on Capitol Hill Senate and House, teaching the future of tomorrow across the world to The Netherlands, and the list continues. Serenity shares how the Netherlands is shaping her professionally. 

We are back for Season 3! It is year 3 of living in The Netherlands. After two years of a pandemic while living in The Netherlands and one year and eight months from recording her last podcast episode. Serenity is now ready to catch up with her listening community and share new life updates on dating as an expat in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She defines what dating looks like to her. Is she open to dating? Who is she currently dating?

While the idea of isolation and quietness comes with its own experiences. I choose to be isolated and quiet with myself and creator (my God) because it always leads to my level up. The truth of a matter is this past year 2020 shifted my emotions, mental capacity, passions and purpose. Fasting is a spiritual art form that allows me to get clear and clean in my life to discover the next level up meant for my life. A time to give up somethings so I can find alignment in ALL THINGS. Have you ever spiritually fasted?

The lesson - I have learned more in the past 21 days of fasting and prayer than I have in my 7 months living in The Netherlands. I’ve discovered many things, but two things for sure:

✨ This is the year of luxury and contentment.

✨This is the year to truly show up in my fullest potential outside of ANY side/hustle business.

Earlier this week, I had a real life moment with myself and instead of writing it down in my journal. I grabbed the MIC instead. I reflected on all my successes and accomplishments recognizing it was because someone believed in me. Sometimes we learn life’s greatest lessons as we progress through life. I’m a believer that we should always believe in ourselves to achieve all that we desire, but it’s another thing to receive the greatest opportunity because someone else believed in YOU!
