How Do I Initiate In A Sexless Marriage? #696

In this call-in show, I address the challenges faced by Julie - who has been married for over 30 years but have lost intimacy in the relationship. We discuss the complexities of rekindling their sexual life, the dynamics of desire, and the impact of erection issues on their intimacy. Our conversation emphasizes the importance of communication, understanding each other's needs, and embracing the awkwardness that comes with trying to reconnect. Ultimately, intimacy is not solely defined by sexual performance but also by emotional connection and mutual support. Takeaways Intimacy can fade over time due to various life circumstances. Open communication about desires and needs is crucial. Initiating intimacy can be challenging when past experiences create hesitation. Foreplay should be a continuous process, not limited to the bedroom. Understanding each other's sexual drives can help bridge gaps in intimacy. Erection issues can create pressure and anxiety in sexual encounters. It's important to reassure each other during intimate moments, regardless of the outcome. Embracing awkwardness can lead to growth and deeper connection. Intimacy is about more than just sexual performance; it's about connection. Recognizing that both partners have different needs and desires is essential for a healthy relationship. On the Xtended Version ... We continue the Power Moves conversation by focusing even more on our own part in the dynamics of marital communication and moves.  Enjoy the show! Sponsors ... Power and Oral Sex #692

Today we dive into two listener emails on the topic of oral sex within a marriage and the dynamics of power that can be associated with it. Everyone has different preferences and aspects of sex that they enjoy more than others - so we look at the issue through the lens of power and how it can be a way for people to feel sexy and in control. Our conversation also addresses a listener's frustration with their spouse's reluctance to engage in oral sex and the power dynamics at play in their relationship.  Takeaways People have different preferences and aspects of sex that they enjoy more than others. Engaging in oral sex can be a way for individuals to feel sexy and in control. Power dynamics can play a role in sexual encounters, and it's important to navigate them in a healthy and consensual way. Open communication and self-reflection are key to addressing challenges and frustrations in a sexual relationship. Marriage should not be based on quid pro quo or manipulative power plays, but on love, collaboration, and mutual pleasure. On the Xtended Version ... A listener emails in about a fear he has that his girlfriends physical appearance may lead to potential performance issues if they get married. Even though she is perfect in every way! Highly Sensitive People | Irene Fehr #691

This week, Dr. Corey and Irene Fehr discuss the concept of highly sensitive people (HSPs) and how it relates to sexual desire in long-term relationships. We explore the different types of sexual desire models, with most women being highly responsive. And we also delve into the characteristics of HSPs, including sensory sensitivity, emotional sensitivity, energetic sensitivity, and introspection. Irene explains the importance of acknowledging and managing overstimulation for HSPs, as well as the need for emotional de-armoring and a slow, spacious progression in physical intimacy. Our conversation emphasizes the importance of self-care and collaboration in creating a better connectedness within the dynamic of a relationship. Learn more about Irene here - https://www.irenefehr.com/ Takeaways Highly sensitive people (HSPs) tend to be highly responsive and sensitive to their environment, both sensorially and energetically. HSPs have a sensitive nervous system wiring, which leads to more input being registered and more time spent processing that information. HSPs may experience overwhelm, overstimulation, and a sense of armoring as a result of their heightened sensitivity. Creating transition times and practicing self-care are essential for managing overstimulation and de-armoring. Emotional dearmoring involves opening up emotionally and having heart-to-heart conversations to melt the armor and foster intimacy. In physical intimacy, HSPs need a slow, spacious progression that focuses on touch that is first affectionate and comforting before becoming more sensual and sexual. On the Xtended Version ... Pam and I give our take on the concept of Highly Sensitive People.  Enjoy the show! Sponsors ...
