A glimpse into the heart of medicine
14/12/2024
Ashley Skidmore is one of the clinicians I admire most. Her clinical expertise and deep compassion for patients were so inspiring to me when I was the pre-PA student just trying to get everything together for my application. I know she is going to pour all of that into this podcast, and bring on clinicians who are the kinds of people we want to be when we have the letters after our names and patients we are responsible to. Some of the most important moments for me when developing my professional vocation happened in the little conversations with clinicians in between patients, where they shared their heart, their rationale, how they balance their life, what it means to spend your life helping people heal. Those conversations (many of which I had with Ashley) shaped me into the clinician I’m going to be when I start practicing later this year (!!) as a PA. And this podcast is going to be a compilation of those types of conversations with some incredible people, many of whom you’ll likely never get a chance to shadow or have lunch with. Not only will this podcast help you hit the ground running in the medical world when you do shadow and start working, but my guess is you’ll find it grounding, and really helpful, and inspiring. And maybe even life altering. I mean, before I started shadowing I was set for hospital medicine, and now I’m working towards a career in family practice. And all of that was because of a couple good conversations with an awesome PA.
A Must-Listen for Aspiring Medical Professionals

Having heard a sneak-peek of their first episode, this podcast stands out from the rest due to its unique approach of featuring real medical professionals currently practicing in their respective fields. The podcast's format is engaging, with each episode diving into the personal stories and experiences of medical professionals from diverse backgrounds and specialties. What I find particularly impressive is the way Ashley sheds light on the triumphs and challenges faced by these professionals, offering invaluable insights into the realities of working in the medical field. What resonates with me most about this podcast is its potential to inspire and guide future medical personnel. By sharing the experiences and insights of current medical professionals, this podcast provides a unique window into the various fields within medicine. Aspiring medical professionals can gain a better understanding of what to expect and which field might align with their passions and strengths.

Such a great idea for pre-health students! It’s so difficult to find shadowing opportunities and this will be a great way for students to gain more insight into their fields of interest. Also excited to hear different perspectives as a current healthcare worker! Great job.
