Inventing the Commercialization of the Internet
    Ken McCarthy, KenMcCarthy.com

    – The Sharkpreneur podcast with Seth Greene Episode 801 Ken McCarthy
Ken McCarthy was one of the original pioneers of the movement to commercialize the Internet. He sponsored the first conference on the subject of the Web’s commercial potential in 1994 with the then 23-year-old co-founder of Netscape Marc Andreessen as the featured speaker.

That same year Ken wrote the first article on e-mail advertising that was published in a legitimate marketing industry trade journal. Rick Boyce, who is widely credited with popularizing the banner ad, credits Ken with introducing him to the idea that the Internet could be used as an advertising medium. Writing for Time Magazine, Tony Halle CEO of Charbeat which provides Internet metrics to over 4,000 major online publishers, credited Ken with being the first to grasp the importance of the clickthrough rate. (This metric is the foundation of both Google and Facebook’s fortunes.)

Ken’s book “The Internet Business Manual” was the first book on Internet entrepreneurship published in Japan and for many years he served as a consultant to NEC, the Japanese equivalent to IBM, advising them on Internet matters. Since 1993, Ken has developed numerous cutting edge training programs that have not only helped his clients make more money but have also served to advance the state-of-the-art in Internet marketing practice.

Since its introduction in 2002, Ken’s System Seminar has been widely regarded as one of the most practical Internet marketing trainings in the world. In 2008, the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted him the exclusive right to use the phrase “The System” to describe Internet marketing education products.

Before entering the Internet field, Ken produced concerts and radio programs; taught advanced learning strategies at MIT and Columbia University; worked on Wall Street; founded a direct marketing consulting company; and helped start an audio postproduction studio in New York City that was involved in the making of an Academy Award winning film and one of the highest grossing foreign language films of all time.

Currently, he is a special adviser to levees.org and Friends of Hudson, a board member and adviser to Meals for Health and the proprietor of JazzontheTube, the second most visited jazz web site on the Internet. Ken’s work both on and off the Internet has been acknowledged in several books including The Complete Guide to Internet Publicity by Steve O’Keefe, Peak Learning by Ron Gross, and How to Make Millions with Your Ideas by Dan Kennedy.

Listen to this illuminating Sharkpreneur episode with Ken McCarthy about inventing the commercialization of the internet.
Here are some of the beneficial topics covered on this week’s show:
    - How the invention of the internet is as important as the invention of the printing press.
    - Why people who only utilize the internet should be looking at direct mail.
    - How publishing your own book allows you to stand out in your marketplace.
    - Why it’s easy for people to lose or forget about your digital ads.
    - How you want to set yourself apart with your marketing strategy.

    – The Sharkpreneur podcast with Seth Greene Episode 798 Harry Morton
Harry Morton is the UK-based founder and CEO of Lower Street, a podcast production agency specializing in creating shows for agencies, startups, and enterprise clients.
As more agencies rush to get into audio, it’s giving rise to lots of half-baked productions nobody actually wants to listen to. According to Harry, it’s not enough to just sit for 30 minutes and talk if you want to stand out from the growing competition. Much more goes into building and running listen-worthy and ROI-positive podcasts.
Harry and his team of producers, audio engineers, and marketers have launched more than 50 podcasts and produced thousands of episodes. Their client roster includes the #1 UK business podcast Secret Leaders, brands like Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and Stanford Graduate School of Business, as well as multiple hugely successful agency podcasts.
Harry is also a happy father of 2, avid mountain biker, and an occasional music producer

    The Magic Couch
    Edgar Blazona, BenchMade Modern

    – The Sharkpreneur podcast with Seth Greene Episode 797 Edgar Blazona
Edgar Blazona is a modernist American furniture designer and founder of wildly popular DTC sofa brand BenchMade Modern. A high school dropout, turned graffiti artist, turned serial entrepreneur, Edgar got his start in the furniture industry because of need: he was young and broke, and his first apartment didn’t have any furniture. Necessity became invention.

Along with starting several (!) of his own companies, including Modular Dwellings – a prefab backyard shelter company, Edgar also sharpened his skills in the corporate world at Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware. As he saw customers accustomed to waiting three months (and more!) for sofas and sectionals that realistically take only a few weeks to make, he realized there must be a better way and founded BenchMade Modern in 2015 to disrupt this norm.

BenchMade Modern offers sofas and sectionals in 5” increments and custom configurations, depths, fabrics and more. Custom furniture arrives at your doorstep within weeks, not months.

Listen to this illuminating Sharkpreneur episode with Edgar Blazona about creating magic sofas.
Here are some of the beneficial topics covered on this week’s show:
    - How it’s smart to work for a business that is like the one you want to start.
    - Why the traditional way of selling and storing furniture has become archaic.
    - How most people don’t want a sofa that can be made faster than it can be delivered.
    - Why 10 days is the sweet spot for manufacturing, trucking, and delivery.
    - How the pandemic caused people to want to go buy more furniture.
