FAST X : Fast-Ten Your Seatbelts

What do you know!? FRANCHI$ED is back (sort of)! Jonathan & Ariane return to the driver seat to get back to their roots with the franchise that started it all, The Fast Saga (are they still calling it that?). Of course, we are talking about the new instalment of the super spy car racing series, FAST X. After going to space in the last film, you might wonder how the series could top itself? Well, we venture to the depths of the ocean to pluck out not one, but two Aquamen, add in even more new characters, blow up the Vatican, and just do a bunch of self-referential humour that basically lets everyone know, that you know, it's all a parody now. Oh, and you retcon your most beloved film in the series and start mysteriously bringing back more presumed dead characters. Death doesn't matter. Gravity doesn't matter. It's all vroom, vroom, NOS, explosions and smooth brain! It's time to get FRANCHI$ED... We just may be back for that long promised 3rd Season with the Twilight Franchise. Killing the Zombie

On this wrap up episode of Season Two of FRANCHI$ED, hosts Jonathan Foster, Ariane Anantaputri & Fil Freitas give their final thoughts on the zombie films of George A. Romero and the Return of the Living Dead series, plus dish out some of their favourite moments of the season of brain-eating thrills! It's been a wild and crazy ride, but this is where we must end Season Two for now and open the chapter to Season Three – coming in Feb or March 2022. Survival of the Dead

"In an us-versus-them world, someone puts up a flag, another person tears it down and puts up his own. Pretty soon no one remembers what started the war in the first place and the fighting becomes all about those stupid flags." This week on FRANCHI$ED, hosts Jonathan Foster, Ariane Anantaputri & Fil Freitas enlist in the National Guard, only to find the world goes AWOL (zombies again...) and we are left trying to find a safe haven amongst the dead. Our journeys take us to Plum Island – a weird island off the coast of New England, that is inhabited by two Irish families in the midst of a decades old feud. It's the episode of Season 2, with George A. Romero's SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD (2009). It's the final film in the director's second Dead Trilogy, and sadly, the final film the director would direct before his passing in 2017. This time, Romero – for the first time ever – makes an actual sequel... sort of. The film stars Alan van Sprang as Sergeant "Nicotine" Crockett, who we last saw in Diary of the Dead robbing the poor film students of their supplies, back leading his crew of National Guardsmen into the Apocalypse. Taking influence from William Wyler's The Big Country, Romero places these soldiers into a Hattfields & McCoys-styled Western drama with Zombies. Is this film a fitting end to the storied director's career? Tune in to find out... Diary of the Dead

"The more voices there are, the more spin there is. The truth becomes that much harder to find. In the end, it's all just noise." This week on FRANCHI$ED, hosts Jonathan Foster, Ariane Anantaputri & Fil Freitas drop in on a film school horror movie set, only to find the world is suddenly being taken over by the dead. As they try to make it out, one of the annoying film students decides to pull a Blair Witch and film the whole thing. We're here with the penultimate episode of Season 2, with George A. Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD (2007). It's the second film in the director's second Dead Trilogy, and this time sees Romero taking the zombie film back to the first night, against a more modern lens. Always ahead of his time, Romero also decided to throw his hat into the found footage game, before Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield would re-popularise the genre, has he wanted to explore emerging media and citizen journalism. How does this film hold up 15 years removed from the boom of Myspace and YouTube? Is it already dated, or does it remain underrated and prescient? Tune it to find out... Land of the Dead

"In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word 'trouble' loses much of its meaning." This week on FRANCHI$ED, hosts Jonathan Foster, Ariane Anantaputri & Fil Freitas try to escape the feudalistic microcosm of Fiddler's Green, but get caught up in the middle of a spat between the crew of the Dead Reckoning and the capitalist ruler of the city. Oh, and there is an army of zombies that have seemingly evolved – and they are heading directly for the city. We've finally arrived to the home stretch of Season 2, with George A. Romero's LAND OF THE DEAD (2005), starring Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper and Asia Argento. It's the first film in the iconic director's second Dead Trilogy and again features some interesting zombie evolutions, with Eugene Clark's Big Daddy picking up nicely from where Bub left off. Return of the Living Dead III

"Love never dies." This week on FRANCHI$ED hosts Jonathan Foster, Ariane Anantaputri & Fil Freitas, on their way to Seattle to make it big as the next Nirvana, decide to stake out a military base where they've heard human corpses are being exposed to a deadly gas that turns them into the Living Dead. Once there, they witness a young man re-animate his deceased girlfriend and all hell breaks loose! We made it past Dan O'Bannon's punk rock zombie classic and Ken Wiederhorn's attempt to do the same story but with kids. Now we are treated to something completely out of left field, with Brain Yuzna's 1993 romantic horror RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD III. Join us as we are treated to a Romeo and Juliet-esque tale, with lots of blood and guts, tons of unfortunate stereotypes, and the super talented & gorgeous Melinda Clarke giving Bub from George A. Romero's Day of the Dead a run for his money, as one of the most unique zombies in film history. It ain't perfect. It's debatably good. But, it sure is different... Return of the Living Dead Part II

" Just when you thought it was safe to be dead." This week on FRANCHI$ED hosts Jonathan Foster, Ariane Anantaputri & Fil Freitas head back to the graveyard only to discover punk really is dead and the cemetary is just full of little kids unleashing dangerous gases that causes an acidic rain to come pouring from the sky, making the dead rise from their graves! Wait... haven't we done this already?!? After surviving Dan O'Bannon's 1985 comical approach to the extremely loose sequel to George A. Romero's The Night of the Living Dead, we turn our attentions to its 1988 sequel RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD PART II, written and directed by Ken Wiederhorn. Join us as rehash a lot of the same plotlines, see the return of some of the same actors playing different, yet the exact same characters from the first film, and deal with a bunch of dumb kids in this The Goonies vs Zombies comedy-horror.
