Claire Silver is a crypto artist who gives expression to her creative vision using the power of AI. Instead of creating new art by hand, Silver’s crypto art is the output of generative adversarial networks (GANs), which explore themes of “vulnerability, trauma, disability, social hierarchy, innocence, and divinity”. In doing so, her work questions “the role they will play in our transhumanist future.” Silver’s work also reflects a shifting paradigm into the broader art world: taste is the new skill. With AI tools that — in theory — can execute any artistic idea, all that’s left is the idea, which can only come from the artist themselves.
In this episode we cover:
- Whether artists should feel threatened by the emergence of AI
- The biggest misconceptions surrounding the role of AI in art
- Silver’s creative process and the various AI tools she uses
- How an artist’s taste is the deciding factor for the quality of their work
