I am an automotive designer but people are always asking me, "what does that mean"? And, how do you "design" a car? My favorite question, though, is what makes "good" design? This podcast will answer all of those questions and more as we talk about the latest in automotive trends, major car shows like NAIAS and SEMA, and what influences these designs. Every now and again, I'll talk product design too. So come on, check out an episode or two and let's take this journey together!

    Detroit Autoshow: To see or not to see?

    Me and the crew went to the Detroit Autoshow this week (twice) and if there is one major takeaway to mention, its that CES is a far better autoshow than NAIAS. If you followed us on our livestreams via instagram (Sketchbook_Audio) you likely saw, well, everything. And in the 30 minutes it took for me to walk through the entire thing, there wasnt much to see. But, my crew and I found some interesting vehicles and we have some hot takes on what we did see and do. P.s. I set this episode to 18+ because, well, some of us dont have a filter. So, to protect your little ones, just be mindful that we dropped a few curse words and ONE F bomb. Because PG13.

    Detroit Auto Show Update; Jaguar, what have you done? And, a Samurai T-Rex?! Just watch

    Hello and welcome fellow sketch-bookers. Ryan Sketch here and if you feel like things are looking a little different around here...they are. Anchor.fm, now part of Spotify, has partnered with Riverside to provide our media recording and publishing. I am still learning the ins and outs of it so each week should get a little better. Oddly enough, it uses AI in a way that I am actually OK with and that is to help identify "segments" or topic changes within the video. Pretty cool! It also creates a very accurate transcript for each individual person. Which I guess would help if you are deaf. Anywho, this weeks episode was pretty fun to record. Even behind the scenes we were laughing hysterically and just having a good time deciding which topics to discuss. If you are new to SBA, we discuss basically anything that was designed. Videogames, movies, cars, toys, tech etc. We will try to add more variety with each new episode so, stay tuned! This week, we discuss the following: - 2025 Detroit Auto Show aka NAIAS. Our predictions of what we will see, and what we wont see. - JaGUar's (thats not a typo either and i did not have a seizure whilst typing that) Vision Concept. Wow, uh, you'll have to listen to our review. - 2026 Honda Passport Trailsport (thats a lot of sport, but honda figured out basic, casual off-roading better than Ford, GM, Jeep, Nissan and Mazda) - 2026 Hyundai Palisade. Whoa...this is budget luxury at its finest! - Another round of Nikki's Useless Information - Nintendo R4 concept (and its Scion predecessor) - A videogame about a "genetically-altered Samurai T-Rex and his delinquent son, exploring a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, Japan" . That sounds insane but SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! P.s. This episode is labled explicit but thats purely because of some colorful language from my crew and I. Whoops. Youve been warned.     Episode #2 - New faces, lots of fun car talk!

    You may have noticed that there are now three people working on this show, and I couldnt be happier about it! James and Nikki will bring their fun car-related stories and passions to the mix, and also offer up fresh opinions and ideas. So, no more listening to just me blabbing about cars and design! That said, we are going to dive deep into a few fun topics for this weeks episode including but not limited to, Charger/Magnum hybrids (James), new Wrangler Willys 4xe special military-themed edition (Ryan), The impending doom for Motortrend and Roadkill (Nikki) and so much more!

    Biden Admin may reverse/slow its push for EVs - What is the Kia Carnival? - The new Mini Countryman

    There is some very interesting news going around about the Biden Administration potentially reversing or slowing its push for Evie's here in the United States which could have implications the world over. But what does that mean for the automotive market and buyer? Well basically, right now would be the best time to get an EV because dealerships are flooded with stock that nobody wants. Did you know that the KIA Carnival is not really just a minivan? Did you know that it also used to have a totally different name? And did you know that it's actually pretty cool? Last but not least, the Mini Countryman isn't so "mini" anymore but does that mean it doesn't belong in the Mini family anymore? Personally, I think it is a fantastic option for those looking for a compact crossover, but it does stick out like a sore thumb amongst all of the other Mini Cooper vehicles.

    Sketchbook Audio Returns! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

    Well folks, I am back! Its been awhile and I had to do some soul searching, but here I am! Back and better than ever! (Maybe haha). Big shout out to my fans for keeping me going! You all asked for more, so here we go! This is a bit of a Christmas present to you all and me as I was offered the chance to review a really nice dashcam from a brand called Pelsee. The cam is called the P2 Trio, and it features 3 cameras, 5ghz connection, 4k recording (audio and video), voice commands, a GPS (for speed) and a slew of other very nice features.
