Slip Slidin’ Away: Toppling Statues, Cancel Culture and Social Media

A passionate debate erupts among the panel on the topic of the “Cancel Culture,” Social Media, and the recent anti-police protest movement. Greg suggests that a line may have been crossed but also that it’s hard to justify using deadly force in defense of Confederate statutes. Jim contends that an increase in crime and on-going protests and destruction of statues must be contained, or we risk a complete break-down in public safety and societal norms. Jeff pushes back hard on Jim’s “slippery slope” argument, asserting that going from attacking symbols of oppression to the decline of civilization is a huge and unjustifiable leap. Jerad contends that the push back on racism has been a long time coming, and is a huge concern for younger Americans. Greg contends a “law-and-order” backlash has not occurred because, thanks to cell phone cameras, white America finally saw the truth in what black America has been saying for years: that cops are abusive and lie about it when challenged.
