This episode delves into a real-world scenario of cybersecurity and online scam prevention, featuring a detailed analysis of interactions with two potential scammers attempting phishing on a website. The approach used is based on the concept of social engineering and ethical hacking, where an AI agent was tasked to extract as much information as possible from the scammers. The goal was to identify their methods and techniques, revealing a strategy to actively engage with potential threats. This allowed the collection of valuable intelligence instead of simply blocking suspicious users, with the AI probing for information such as their investment interest, location, banking preferences, and technical details like sort codes, transfer methods, and VPN usage. The inconsistencies and evasive answers, including fake names and hidden locations, pointed to a coordinated phishing attempt rather than genuine inquiries.

The conversations exposed that both scammers claimed to be from the UK but used IP addresses from the USA and Romania. They also repeatedly asked for bank transfer details, refusing to use bitcoins. The strategic questioning revealed these were attempts at financial fraud, where the goal was to obtain banking information rather than invest. By refusing to provide bank details and forcing the scammers to engage on technical aspects and a bitcoin donation request, the AI was able to expose them. The end result was that the scammers were blocked, with their IP addresses recorded. This approach demonstrates how to use strategic questioning to detect and combat cyber threats, offering key insights for improving website security, and developing fraud prevention measures to protect against online scams.
