Each episode, Ryan briefly explores the cultural context, impact, and narrative surrounding some artifact of the past, event, book, movie, work of art, song, poem, etc. So, if you have a few short moments to spare and want to learn about some small piece of the past, listen to some stories.

This episode, Ryan looks at the Ralph Waldo Emerson poem, "Forbearance," and talks about the various effects of the last few months.     "Retief! Retief! Retief!" These three words cover the top half of the back of the 1963 printing of Keith Laumer's novel, Envoy to New Worlds. This episode, Ryan looks at the first story in Laumer's acclaimed sci-fi series and how it relates to accuracy in historical canon.     Who Are You Today?

    On September 25th, 2013, Image Comics released the first issue of Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky. The series would go on to win several awards and, despite its raunchy and bizarre premise, would gain a massive audience. In this episode, Ryan explores how Fraction and Zdarsky talk about identity, sexuality, and empathy, and how this unusual comic garnered such a devoted audience. Fewer are taught about the mass merchandizing of the famed moon landing. In this episode, Ryan explores the content of a record produced by CBS news in the months following this seminal moment.
