Songwriter Soup
Songwriter Soup is a frank discussion about how to make it in the music industry as a songwriter. It takes grit and a lot of patience, but also sound financial advice. Laura Veltz is a Four-time Grammy-nominated songwriter and is teaming up with Tracy Hackney, a seasoned financial advisor for musicians, to bring you the tips and tricks of the industry. Joined by host and producer, Kevin Sokolnicki, the trio has interviews with some of the most prominent and up-and-coming songwriters and artists in the music industry. Songwriter Soup airs every Monday where you get your podcasts.
There’s gold in the soup

This podcast is about more than songwriting - it tackles the business of being a creative human being. If creating & thriving lights you up, start from the first episode and dive in. Laura, Dr. Empathy (aka Tracy), Kevin and their guests generously share the secrets of how to thrive while doing what you love: Wellness feeds great craft. Their original intended audience might be a budding songwriter in Nashville, but the wisdom applies to all working creatives caring for themselves, their families, and their creative community. I'm a San Francisco working mother, design business owner, and late blooming songwriter. At my company we live by the phrase "Win at home, win at work. Win at work, win at home." This podcast captures the same spirit with wildly practical information and tips through relatable, vulnerable stories that would make Brene Brown stand up and cheer. The intersection of commerce and art doesn't have to feel so scary when there are trusted mentors like these three willing to share real-life experience for those getting started - even a 40-something with a life-sized pile of stories to share. Questions I still have though... What does it actually mean when you 'turn in’ a song ? Is it a voice recording on somebody's phone? Is it a written sheet, a draft produced version made that day? What does it look and sound like? Can you reuse part of a song that didn't get cut in a different co-write? PS: I was so moved by Laura's comment about leaving for work travel and modeling "I want to go" for her kiddos. I haven't heard another working mother say it in that way besides me and it meant so much to hear this.

Great podcast. Super insightful. Found it a few weeks ago and have listened to almost every episode. Love your camaraderie . I am a screenwriter (and song writer fan) and find a lot of the same principals apply to both our industries.
so helpful!

This is a great podcast to understand what it is like on the inside of the world of songwriting, producing, and the music business in general. They have a fun and playful style, but very informative with great guess. The only problem I have is that the host drops the F bomb about 100 times per podcast and it is completely unnecessary and only detracts from the podcast. It says it is clean, but if it’s clean, then I have a different concept of clean. I don’t need the bomb dropped all over the podcast. A couple of times for emphasis or humor does not bother me, but every couple of sentences is just too much. But that is just one man’s opinion.
