Welcome to Episode 131 of the Sounds like a search and rescue podcast. This week we are joined by Ken Lindbloom from Texas Search and Rescue. Ken is a volunteer with TexSAR and has a background in emergency and disaster management, His particular area of interest is medical care for working K9 dogs. Ken has done two separate research projects on K9 operational medicine and is joining us tonight to explain the who, what, why, and how of developing a formal prehospital medical program for SAR K9s. To put this simply - when rescue dogs need medical help - how do SAR teams get enough medical training to make sure the dogs are treated until they can get to a medical facility. In addition to the K9 segment we will be ranking the AMC Huts, recapping our recent live episode at Reklis, we have follow ups on eye protection, a story about spite houses, a story about a very loyal jack russell terrier, recent hikes on the Belknaps, Kinsmans, a bushwhack on Mt. Deception, Winter hiking plans,

Welcome to the Sounds Like a Search and Rescue Podcast! Also known as SLASR. Join an experienced search and rescue volunteer and his friend as they discuss all things related to hiking and search and rescue in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.   This week we turn west to the Berkshires and the Catskills. Welcome back to our friend Stash from Inside the Line Podcast. Stash is the guy for all things hiking related to the Catskills. He is approaching his 100th episode so we wanted to have him come back in to catch up, he has some updates to share including an ill fated Pemi Loop, we’ll talk about trail maintenance and volunteering and Stash will compare some aspects of the Whites to the Catskills. Continuing our focus of pointing west, I’ll have a hiking recap of a recent trip to Mount Greylock which will include some history and tips for planning a trip out to the berkshires. All this plus Stomp hikes the Watcher and Eaglet, What is in Mrs. Stomps backpack? We snoop in her pack while she is out of town, snow predictions for this winter, when Elk attack, are survival hiking sticks the next big thing and Mr. Beast tries to do a good thing and it goes terribly wrong.

Excellent Pod

As someone who spends way too much time in the Whites, I find this to be an excellent source of information and insights. Mike and Stomp have solid perspectives, bring on outstanding guests (and interview them very well). Every episode brings new insight. Keep up the great work.

The perfect companion for White Mountain hikers

I found this podcast after my cousin died while hiking and Mike and Stomp covered his passing with incredible compassion. Since then I have gone back and listened to every episode. It’s the perfect mix of practical tips, history, humor, and, of course, search and rescue news. It’s now my companion for those long drives back and forth to the Whites!

Excellent podcast

Solid info from people who know what they are talking about. They give you a roadmap of topics for the episodes to so you can travel within the episode to what you want if you choose. Good stuff.
