A leading member of South Sudan’s so-called peace holdout armed groups says the country needs a serious dialogue to discuss the root causes of its problems. The holdouts have yet to ratify the 2018 Revitalized Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Pagan Amum spoke as Kenyan President William Ruto officially launched a mediation process on Thursday to bring about peace between the South Sudan government and the lagging groups. The talks had been taking place in recent years in Rome. Amum tells VOA’s James Butty, the hold-outs want to reform the country and put it on the path of democratic transformation and development.
