Allen McDuffie and Jeff Yashinsky Talk Hiring Me Out of Law School, Management Skills that Created a Memorable Office Environment, 11:30 Sharp Work Lunches, Becoming a Baseball Sports Agent and Can the Detroit Lions win the Super Bowl

Allen McDuffie and Jeff Yashinsky join Sports ‘N Torts for Episode 123. Jeff and Allen were my first bosses at my first law firm job after Law School at the Progressive In-House Law Firm. Jeff, along with our friend Tara Parker, were the ones who interviewed me while I was a 2nd year law student at UGA and somehow I convinced them to offer me a job. We had a great time reminiscing about all working together and we picked up like we had never left off. Whatever success I may have had as a lawyer – I owe a lot of it to these guys. In this episode we discuss: -the benefits of working for an insurance company early in one’s career; -the training received at Progressive; -how Jeff and Allen built chemistry at the office and created an environment where we all had fun, did great work and are all still friends 20 years later; -how Allen handled Jeff when he wanted to quit as manager; -learning and implementing management skills; -work trips; -importance of work lunches; -their move from defense work to Plaintiffs work; -Jeff's new job at the Schnyder Law Firm; -Allen’s life as a baseball sports agent; -Allen’s move towards retirement and his new career as a mediator and how his perspective from both P and D side give him an advantage in resolving cases; -enjoying your kids sports career; -Vanderbilt sports – baseball and football; -Detroit sports and Jeff’s love for the Lions; -Jägermeister And so much more. We had an absolute blast getting together to record this episode and while you may not get some of the inside jokes I know you will still get a whole bunch out of this episode and will have fun listening to us talking about “Remember When”. Alan Holcomb Talks Relentless and Compassionate Advocacy, Litigating with Smart Military Type Tactics, Theme Charts, Sports Gambling and his $495,000,000 Jury Verdict

Alan Holcomb joins Sports ‘N Torts for Episode 119. Alan is a graduate of UGA and Emory Law School. Alan is a lawyer in Atlanta who has been widely recognized for his legal prowess and trusted experience as a trial lawyer in serious injury cases involving trucking accidents, product liability, traumatic brain injuries, burn injuries, medical malpractice and mass torts. I have been trying to schedule this podcast with Alan for quite some time – but he has been busy representing his clients in Court and obtaining a $495,000,000 jury verdict – no, that is not a typo and yes, that is a lot of zeroes and yes Alan and the trial team worked tirelessly for their client to obtain this incredible result in St. Louis, Missouri earlier this year. In this episode we discuss: -Alan’s move from equity partner at Weinberg Wheeler to the Plaintiffs side -the vision for his firm Turnbull, Holcomb & LeMoine -finding passion for the work and being relentless in pursuing the case -the national scope of his practice and the firms commitment to “go to the moon” if that is where the case is -outmaneuvering large defense firms with limitless resources -juggling managing a growing firm with properly litigating and handling complex cases -approaching discovery and litigation like the Viet Cong and not the Red Coats -what are mass tort cases -nuts and bolts of his recent $495M verdict in a trial against Abbot Laboratories -using social media in an appropriate and effective way -lessons learned from Coach Kirby Smart which he employs at his firm -sports gambling This is a great episode to really get inspired to help people through your work and what it takes to succeed. Alan is the man! As always, this episode is powered by the J. Stein Law Firm – a personal injury law firm in Atlanta, GA – www.jsteinlawfirm.com
