Essential Spy Listening

I’ve listened to this show for years. I’m a huge Mission Impossible fan, and I’ve discovered a lot of new movies that I otherwise would not know about. And they give great code names.

The Best In The Business

SpyHards Podcast is, without a doubt, the best espionage movie podcast to ever exist. They not only cover every inch of, admittedly, a pretty niche corner of film, but they do so well. They go in depth about the cast, crew, and pre-and-post production of the film the episode is reviewing. They talk about the film’s themes, technical aspects, and performances on and off the camera. Cam always does a great job of providing context for the film too. He explains the landscape of film at the time, comparing and contrasting the subject film against its contemporaries and competitors whether they’re in the spy genre or not. Like all good spies, they leave no stone unturned and no document un-scanned. They also deliver wonderful interviews with cast and crew from the films they cover, including directors and actors from the James Bond franchise (THEY GOT DENISE RICHARDS GUYS!) For these reasons, I would say that on top of being the best espionage film podcast, SpyHards is ALSO one of the best film podcasts ever of any genre. I do not say this lightly, but SpyHards’ catalogue of work speaks for itself. They don’t need me to say it. Agent Scott, Cam The Provocateur… keep up the fight against S.P.E.C.T.R.E, H.A.R.M and all of the other acronym villainous agencies out there.

Masters of their (spy)craft

SpyHards have mastered the craft of interview, polite interrogation, and debriefing. I have learned so many heretofore hidden, behind-the-scenes details from Spyhards’ interviews. The hosts, Scott and Cam, disarm their guests by demonstrating a genuine interest in their life stories. We are thus able to learn nuanced details about niche films and wider truths about the history of the entertainment industry at large. Part of the magic of the Spyhards interview is a tested and true formula or procedure for the Q&A. Keep up the good work, Scott and Cam! I love your coverage of the Pink Panther films and everything Michael Caine. I look forward to more coverage of the Dalton Bond films, the Tall Blonde Man spy comedy films, and so many other deep cuts from 60s, 70s, and 80s. I also request more episodes on “the films that might have been.” Gentlemen, you are true professionals and are providing a valuable service to those who love His and Her Majesty’s Secret Service!
