How Your Style Can Make or Break Your Success with Elisa Ellis EP141

People form their opinion of you in seven seconds.  You read that right, Podsters – seven seconds. Think about all the time we spend in creating our personal brand.  The things we say, the things we do – how we show up.  And all of this hard work and investment can vanish in seconds because of your clothes. Your brand never sleeps. How you present yourself impacts how people perceive you, from the second  you walk out your door.  We aren’t talking designer labels or being “on trend”.  No – it’s about finding what works for your life and your lifestyle.  Whether it’s a signature color (like HOT PINK!), a polished look, or cool and casual - how you show up matters. I’ve  brought back Elisa Ellis, newly published author, wardrobe stylist and  speaker to dish on all things personal style.  In fact, I refer to Eilsa as a personal style coach;  and she’s joining us today to talk about your style as a competitive advantage. Worried you don’t have any style?  We’ve got you here as well as we talk about a capsule wardrobe, image makers and image breakers and how what you’re wearing can impact your success. Elisa’s book, The Style Advantage: I Say What HR Can’t, is packed with personal style tips, tactics, research, and strategies along with the exact steps she took to get her new book over the finish line after months of merely thinking about it. Elisa is living proof that when you step into your strengths and do what you love, there’s no looking back. We also talk about dressing as self-care, image makers vs. image breakers, and how small tweaks can completely change how you feel and how others see you.  And you don’t have to break the bank, Podsters; we also show you how to show up with style when you’re on a budget. If you’re ready to transform how you look, feel and show up; if you’re ready to have some fun with your style, elevate your presence and drive success in your business and your life – this episode is meant for you. 2. How to Trust Your Intuition & When to Power Through Your Fear EP140

How to Trust Your Intuition & When to Power Through Your Fear EP140

Today’s episode is very near and dear to my heart posters, and it’s because the #1 question I am asked is, “What’s one piece of advice you would give your younger self? And every single time I’m asked this question; my answer is always the same.  Trust your instincts. Intuition, “gut feeling”, instincts – whatever you want to call it – YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU.  And today, Podsters, we’re diving into the science behind intuition and how you can use this natural instinct to further your success. Here’s the science:  Your brain is constantly processing information, even when you're not consciously aware of it (even while you're dreaming or binge-watching Netflix).   Patterns, people, behaviors, facts, thoughts, dreams, all of it.   So, when you have this “feeling” or instinct and you feel like it’s coming out of nowhere – it’s not!   Your subconscious is stepping up and stepping in to help you make these  decisions based on everything you’ve experienced, felt, and learned up until now.  Even without your knowing. You know that “gut feeling”?  Also backed by science.  Your  stomach is full of neurons (100 million of them, to be exact) that work with your mind to help you make decisions, often before you even realize what's going on. Whether it's choosing a new hire, making a tough call at work, or deciding if that new job opportunity feels right, your gut is feeling the situation before your head catches up.   Wild, right? In today’s episode, we talk about when you should trust you’re the feeling and when you should toss the feeling with a little game I call Trust or Toss? Some of the best times to TRUST are when your safety is concerned, if it’s related to your health, a person who feels “off” to you, and the general bad vibes we sometimes feel.  If something feels off Posters, it probably is. When to Toss is not as obvious so let’s make sure you’re not mistaking genuine instinct with simply being uncomfortable.  If you’re feeling iffy because you’re stepping out of your comfort zone, this could be a self-imposed roadblock you’ve created to keep you feeling safe. So, how do you balance trusting your gut with all the noise around you?   Learning to trust your instincts is a skill, and like any other skill, you can develop and master it over time.  And today’s episode is the first step as we share insights to help you step into that intuition and trust that you always know what’s right for you. 3. Stop Organizing, Start Living: Why “Systems” Aren’t The Answer EP139

Stop Organizing, Start Living: Why “Systems” Aren’t The Answer EP139

Let’s face it, Podsters, every time you try to organize your life, it feels like you’ve been sold a cookie-cutter solution that only makes things worse. Systems that look great in theory tend to crash and burn when faced with the reality of OUR lives.  It’s like trying to squeeze into a dress that was made for a different body, except now we’re drowning in paper, emails, and photos we don’t even remember taking. Cue the overwhelm. Today I’ve brought in an expert, Joann Krall, who LIVES to help people like us organize our lives.  We’re getting real about why most organizational hacks fail, why cookie-cutter systems are a total waste of time, and how to stop beating ourselves up for being “disorganized.” Here’s what you’ll enjoy hearing about today: Overwhelm, anyone?: The root of your organizational crisis isn’t your lack of time—it’s your lack of the right system. When the overwhelm kicks in, it’s because you’re trying to use someone else’s formula, and it’s just not working for you. Let. It. Go.: If a system isn’t working for you, cut it loose. Life’s too short to try to force a square peg into a round hole, right? Stop pretending you’re someone you’re not. Cookie-cutter solutions are NOT for you. We’re diving into the mess, not avoiding it. Purge with Purpose: Don’t waste time psychoanalyzing yourself before you declutter. Make a quick decision—focus on what you’re getting rid of, not the why. You’ll have plenty of time for that later, trust me. My new "Photo Friday" ritual: 20 minutes every Friday to clear out the 10,000 photos sitting in my iPhone so I can actually enjoy the photos I have taken De-Clutter in Chunks: The “Chipping Away” method is your new best friend. Forget about doing it all at once. Break it down into manageable micro-sections that you can knock out without wanting to pull your hair out. Reality Check: New systems aren’t working for you because—brace yourself—they’re not YOUR systems. Time to create systems that actually suit you. How about we stop buying into someone else’s idea of “organized” and start creating systems that fit OUR life, OUR vibe, and OUR unique personality? Today, Podsters, we get real with your systems and get ‘er done on OUR terms. If this episode hits you in all the right places, go ahead and subscribe, rate, and drop a review (or send me a DM because I love hearing from you). Also, if you’re on the right mailing lists (cough mine), you’ll get tips that actually work. Just saying. Let Go or Get Left Behind: 3 Things You Need to Ditch for Success in 2025 EP138

Are you still making the same tired New Year’s resolutions? Year after year, you swear this is the year you’ll change… but then you find yourself right back where you started by February? Well, guess what, Podsters? This episode is about to flip your New Year’s resolution game on its head. We’re getting real and we’re getting tactical—because it’s time to break the cycle. In this episode, we’re diving into three simple (not-so-simple-to-execute) things you need to let go of in 2025 to start thriving at work, in your relationships, and in your life. Time to cut the cord on those one-sided connections—whether it's friends, family, clients, or coworkers. You know the ones: the relationships where you’re putting in 110% and getting back... nada. Zilch. Zero. If you're putting more energy into a relationship than you're getting back, it’s time for a serious reevaluation. Are you ready to stop carrying the emotional weight of everyone else? Because you deserve better. No, we’re not telling you to lower your standards. But if you’ve been holding on to unrealistic expectations for yourself (or others) that are just setting you up for frustration and disappointment... girl, it’s time to let that go. The constant cycle of “I should be doing this, I should be doing that” will only drain your soul. Instead, let go of that heavy burden and create space for realistic, aligned goals. Trust us—you’ll be a lot more productive (and a lot less stressed). Let’s talk about the s-word: Should. "I should be exercising more." "I should be more organized." "I should be doing XYZ." Sound familiar? Well, guess what? "Should" comes with a side of guilt, shame, and obligation—and it doesn’t do you any favors. Time to swap "should" for “want to” or “would like to.” It’s a game-changer, trust us. It’s about moving from a mindset of shame to one of intentional action. So, stop repeating the same tired resolutions year after year. Instead, make space for real change by letting go of what’s holding you back. Focus on action. Focus on the things that will actually get you closer to where you want to be in 2025. It’s time to break the patterns and step into your power. Buckle up, Podsters. This is about to get real. Let’s make 2025 the year you thrive. 5. Plan Less, Do More: How to Turn Your Goals Into Reality with Kathleen Lawson EP137

Plan Less, Do More: How to Turn Your Goals Into Reality with Kathleen Lawson EP137

Podsters, we’re back! Welcome to 2025 and the first episode of Unmute Yourself, now in our fourth season. It’s incredible how far we’ve come, and we’re starting the year strong. Today’s episode is all about making sure you’re actually getting stuff done with your big ideas, instead of just dreaming about them (no shade on dreamers, but it’s time to level up, Podsters). Execution is where many of us get stuck, and that’s why Kathleen Lawson, business strategist and fan favorite here at Unmute Yourself is back with us again today. So, what’s the secret sauce? 🔑 Stop Overloading Your Plate: We get it—you're juggling a million things and doing it all. But listen, you can’t do it all and still be fabulous. Kathleen sees so many people stalling because they’re simply trying to take on way too much. Stop that—let’s be smart, not overloaded. 🎯 Mindset Matters: It’s all about doing, not just knowing. Sure, you know what you need to do, but are you actually doing it? If you're only stuck in planning mode, it’s time for a mind shift. Action over anxiety. ⏳ The 90-Day Rule: We often underestimate how much impact today can have on your future. Whatever you’re doing right now? It’s going to show up in 90 days. You’re planting seeds now—let’s make sure you’re planting the right ones. This isn’t about magic. It’s about strategy, mindset, and action. So, get out there, execute like the boss you are, and make your big ideas happen. Time to stop just wishing, and start doing. Ready? Let's do this! Let’s do this! 7. Do These Three Things to Beat Overwhelm This Holiday Season EP134

    2024. 12. 11.

Do These Three Things to Beat Overwhelm This Holiday Season EP134

Alright, Podsters, we all know the holiday season can get chaotic, but it doesn’t have to leave you feeling stressed, overextended, or completely overwhelmed. So let’s break down what each of these really means: Stress: This one feels like pressure. It’s temporary and signals that you’re working through a challenge. You’re still functional, but juggling a lot. Overextended: This is the hard truth—it’s when you’ve taken on more than you can handle. Something’s got to give. Overwhelmed: The emotional rollercoaster. Overwhelm is consuming and can cause you to shut down entirely. It’s the point where you just can’t take another step. Recognizing where you are on this spectrum is key—it helps you navigate the holiday season with more intention and clarity. So now that we know what these are, what can we do about it? Here are three simple steps to take back your peace as you approach overwhelm: Step 1: Sit in Stillness Take 5-10 minutes to simply pause and breathe. This moment of stillness interrupts the cycle of overwhelm and allows you to reset and regain perspective. Just be for a few minutes—you’ll thank yourself later. Step 2: Map Out Your Calendar Grab your calendar and write down every single commitment—work, personal, social, and even the "not-so-fun" stuff. Now, here’s the big move: cancel THREE things. Yes, you heard me right—THREE! Let go of tasks or events that don’t truly matter and focus on what does. Prioritize YOU. Step 3: Block Time for Yourself This one’s essential: carve out a few hours just for you—no agenda, no to-do list, just pure YOU. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a nap, or simply doing nothing, this time is non-negotiable for your well-being.  And if you choose to spend that time wrapping presents or getting caught up – go for it! By making space for what truly matters, you’ll protect your energy and avoid that dreaded year-end burnout. Let’s simplify, streamline, and enjoy the season together.
