A volunteer discovered a new non-native species in Lake Champlain. Officials say the golden clam has the potential to become an invasive species if it ends up damaging the lake's ecosystem. 11/20/24: A river runs through it

Like in many North Country villages, Saranac Lake's riverfront has gone neglected and underutilized. A group of paddlers is trying to build park with a white water wave along the Saranac River, but they still need to raise a lot of money. Also: U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand stopped by SUNY Canton Monday to promote a cyber security program that helps pay for students' tuition but isn't getting enough applicants.

11/19/24: Battling New York's biggest forest fire in years

A drought warning is in place across much of southern New York as the Jennings Creek wildfire has burned thousands of acres and forced people to leave their homes. A conversation with an Adirondack Forest Ranger who's serving as a crew chief to fight the wildfire in Orange County. Also: For the first time, Cape Vincent's only grocery is closing for the winter, leaving a gap for the local food pantry and people in the community who can't drive.

11/14/24: Will Airbnbs return to the long-term rental market?

A new pilot program is exploring a different approach to the region’s housing crisis. Three Adirondack nonprofits have teamed up to help homeowners turn existing short-term rentals, like Airbnb and VRBO, into more traditional long-term rentals. Also: Adirondack green groups react to Lee Zeldin's nomination to head the Environmental Protection Agency.
