Submitted for the Approval of the Midnight Pals

Each week, a group of storytellers gathers around a campfire. There's world-weary club MC Edgar Allan Poe, nerd dad Stephen King, violent goth Mary Shelley, squid-obsessed wimp HP Lovecraft, and others. A comedy-horror semi-anthology adapted from Bitter Karella's Hugo-nominated microfiction.

A campfire gathering of authors past and present unwind with classic horror story retellings
Mar 2
A midnight fire pit brings together authors modern and classic to retell their famous horror stories in a subversive comedic style amongst their likewise subversive peers. “Submitted for the Approval of the Midnight Pals” has a cast and sound effects reminiscent of classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, but definitely the type of humor and self-awareness suitable for Adult Swim programs. It’s a mix of vintage and modern in more ways than one, featuring as it does authors from the 1800s such as Mary Shelley to present day Stephanie Meyers. Who may both be sitting around the same fire. As I got used to the mix, I began to appreciate the outlandish humor, which feels as though you are watching your favorite authors go streaking. Some episodes also go into a bit more depth and nuance for a good change of pace. Check out the show notes of each episode for additional trivia and references. Content warning: mature themes, suggestive and expletive language.

Great performances, lots of fun. You don’t need to be super online to get the humor. Despite the name it feels a little more like Muppet Babies/Wishbone for adults. Obscurer references are dotted in like Easter eggs but feel delightful, not alienating. More please!
Nostalgic laughs of terror for days

As a huge Horror fan I absolutely love seeing these takes on some of the biggest names from my childhood intro to the genre. This show really is the most respectful piece of fan service for an 80s-90s kid out there. Grab some snacks, get spooked, have a laugh, and feel like a kid again. Butterfinger BBs and Surge sadly not included.
Crossover of the century!!

I love the way these iconic authors are brought to life and share their stories campfire style! From the concept up this show has so much imagination! The Tale of the Snow Woman episode is my fav! Looking forward to more!
