This health crisis that we now find ourselves in is unlike anything that anyone alive today has experienced before. It has already disrupted millions of lives and caused instant upheaval and change for all of us. In this episode of Super Relken’s Built Not Born Podcast, we will look back to history for lessons we can learn from the great Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918, courtesy of CBS Sunday Morning. I will sit down with my 11-year old daughter Genevieve Relken and we will share our families recent cross-country adventure and how the Coronavirus impacted us and our plans. Finally, I will finish the show with a special comment and a musical dedication to all of you.

This week we continue our focus on the topic of inclusion through the lens of hockey and the National Hockey League's "Hockey is for Everyone" Initiative.  We are joined by Flint Jr. Firebird's captain and product of the Flint Inner City Youth Hockey Association, Everitt Graham.  We also hear our first SuperRelken "Special Comment".

We meet Flint's very own Rico Phillips, who  received the NHL's 2018-19 Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award. Phillips was determined to make his community a better and more welcoming place. He began that mission by achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a professional firefighter, serving his hometown. In 2010, Phillips created FICYHP to provide a free introduction to hockey for children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to play the sport.

One thing that all of us have in common is that we are imperfect. But this shouldn’t be what we focus on. What we also have in common and share is that we all have unique strengths and abilities laying dormant, just below the surface, that when unleashed, can be maximized to help us face-down our lives in the most fulfilling ways possible by building our best lives together.
