As a player, his career spanned over 1000 pro games in 7 leagues: including 385 in the NHL, 274 in the AHL and stops in the ECHL, IHL, in North America. He also played in top leagues in Europe: Switzerland - NLA, Austria - EBEL, and Sweden - SHL.

Additionally, he competed in 6 Spengler Cups and the IIHF World Junior Championship for Canada.

Pavel Datsyuk is one of the 100 greatest NHL players of all time. His unique and sophisticated skill set has garnered him the name, “Magic Man”. We examine the ecological dynamics of athlete development, using Datsyuk as the back drop for the discussion.
