Stuff You Should Know

Who knew?? I found these podcasts to be very interesting and informative. It's refreshing to know that there are people out there who care enough to inform us of interesting facts that fuel our brains rather than the typical trash that floods us daily. Does anybody really care which celebrity went into rehab this week? This makes for much more interesting conversation around the "water cooler". Not to mention that it makes you sound smart :) Keep up the good work!

I’m a very proud emergency room volunteer in my community of approx 60,000 people but they serve a tri state area. It is so rewarding and it’s an honor to be able to do it. The Paramedics, EMT’s, Firefighters and Police all play such a vital part in emergency services coordinating with the emergency room staff while still on the scene of the emergency. It is AWE inspiring to see the work they do and how calm and calming they are in the face of extreme trauma. It is soul crushing to hear and see how much the emergency services employees get paid when they are going out in the pouring rain, blowing snow, 100 degree heat. They work long hours away from their family’s. Not to mention they are dealing with hysterical families, frightened children, nosey onlookers. They also deal with so many people impaired with drugs and alcohol, and many unhoused people in need of critical care. It is so physically demanding and the emotional toll has to weigh heavily. The Air Ambulance Flight Nurses are another vitally important component. They are truly amazing!! They are verbally abused and sometimes physically abused by the very people they are trying to save. It’s a very thankless way to make a living but like you said they do it because they “care”. I’ve yet to meet one that is rude, dismissive or disrespectful. From my own experience and from observing their work, I do know that there are so many more people who appreciate them and are eternally grateful for the help, compassion and care that they received. I appreciate each one of them and any time I have the opportunity to thank them, I do. You never know when you or a loved one will be their next call. They are hero’s in my mind. I feel the same way about all branches of the military. The University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA has one of the most elite Air Ambulance Services in the country and maybe you could reach out to them. Enjoy these two guys so much. Don’t like all the topics, so I skip them. No big deal, always plenty of others choices from their huge library. My favorite are the ones about criminals or strange deaths. Wish they’d come to Philly would love to see them in person
