In his presentation, Shu describes the legendary doctor as "a great researcher who discovered new treatments for formerly incurable ophthalmologic diseases, as well as a doctor with warmth and kindness." Further, Shu states, "I found a well-balanced mixture of science and warmth in him."     「Deep-Dive Discussions Medicine編、始まる」 Presentation by：Shu Cast：Shu, Soki, Yurika Theme：Medicine Difficulty：★★☆☆☆ Time：36 min Language：English ◆概要 Deep-Dive DiscussionsのMedicine編がついにスタートします。 日本にいながら医学英語を身につけるにはどのようにすればよいのでしょうか。 今回のエピソードでは、日本人にとって医学英語を学ぶ障壁はどのような点にあるのか、Shuは冒頭にプレゼンテーションをしました。そして、どのようにすれば海外で通用する医学知識やコミュニケーション能力を習得できるのかを3人がディスカッションしました。英語教育について考え続けてきたShu, 医師としてのキャリアを海外で歩んでいくSoki, 帰国子女の医学生のYurikaが、医学英語の習得についてDeep-Diveしていきます。 実際、私たち日本人が医学英語を身につけるには、相当の熱意もしくは工夫が必要です。なぜなら日本には、日本語でアクセスできる教材が充実し、診療の場でも日本語以外を使う機会がほとんどないからです。英語ができなくても生きていくとができるのです。さて、この3人はこれから、医師として海外で通用する医学英語に関する語学スキルを身につけることができるのでしょうか。 ◆Description A new series of deep-dive discussions on medicine is about to start! How can Japanese doctors and medical students acquire medical English and communication skills? The reality is a bit harsh for Japanese leaners, and DDD’s three cast members are no exception. In this inaugural episode of the medicine series, Shu makes a presentation outlining the difficulties that Japanese doctors face in the acquisition of medical terms. Shu, who has been pondering this problem for years, Soki, who is SERIOUSLY dreaming of living in London, and Yurika, the returnee medical student, discuss how to master medical English while living and working in Japan. ・P.S. In reality, for Japanese medical students and doctors, it is not easy to master communication skills while in Japan. We have access to the latest updates in the medical field in Japanese; thus, English literacy is not a necessity. On a daily basis, we have next to no opportunities to use English as a communication tool. Therefore, in order to improve our communication skills, we need to deliberately and carefully orchestrate situations in which we communicate in English. Listen as the three cast members attempt to overcome this difficulty: Can they overcome this huge barrier?

    Presentation by：Shi Jia Cast：Shu, Soki, Yurika, Shi Jia (Guest) Theme：Language Learning Difficulty：★★★☆☆ Time：36min Language：English ◆概要 「日本に生まれ日本で暮らす人が、海外に行くことの意味は本当にあるのか」Yurikaはあえて問いました。今回のテーマは、日本人が海外で働くことの意味についてです。 　今回のゲストはShi Jiaです。現在日本の医学生をしている彼女は、中国人の両親の元で日本に育ち、アメリカの大学を卒業しています。そのような経歴を持つ彼女は将来は海外で医師として働く予定です。「海外で学んだことを日本に持ち帰り、日本の医療に貢献したい」と彼女は言います。一方、彼女にとって、海外で医師として働くことは、マイノリティとしての自分のアイデンティティを探す旅でもあるようです。 　みなさんにとって、海外で働くことにはどのような意味がありますか。今回は、日本人医師が海外で働く意味について4人がDeep-Diveしました。 ◆Description “Is there a benefit to experiencing a foreign culture to broaden your horizons if you are just going to come back to the mono-cultural country that is Japan?” At the beginning of this episode, Yurika played devil's advocate. The main focus of this episode is this: What is the meaning of working abroad as a doctor? ”I’m thinking of going for 3-5 years to know their healthcare system as well as medical knowledge and hopefully bring that back to Japan”, Shi Jia, a medical student in Japan who is ethnically Chinese and a returnee from the U.S., states regarding her career plan as a doctor. At the same time, she explains, as a minority, her drive to go abroad is also deeply concerned with her quest to seek out her true identity. 　 In this episode, the 3 cast members and Shi Jia deep-dived into the meaning of doctors working abroad. Furthermore, we need to be aware of this fact in order to truly respect and become accepting of people’s diversity, Soki argues. So far, this podcast channel has accepted various guests with diverse backgrounds. Through shooting many episodes with these remarkable people, the three cast members have found what it means to be truly accepting of diversity. Shu and Soki came to know Dr. Farhan, a physician and ambassador for AMBOSS (a German medical education company), by pure chance. A born and bred Indonesian who has never lived abroad, Dr. Farhan speaks fluent English (and even a little Japanese, too!). His hints for language learning may well provide us with the secret to acquiring fluent linguistic skills without having ever lived overseas. Moreover, throughout this episode, the DDD cast members were struck by Dr. Farhan’s continuous and active commitment to improve the state of Indonesia’s public health system; an effort that is at once unique, impressive, and filled with passion.
