12 episodes

You're not afraid of anything anymore. You're ready to take on any challenge, whatever life throws at you. Having endured the worst, there's very little left out there that can really scare you, but here it is. It's the reminders of what you could be again as soon as you let your guard down, as soon as your friends forget about you, as soon as you lose just a little bit of credit, that slight bit of validation, and go at it truly on your own.

It's a comedy variety show hosted by a optimistic trans woman who tries really hard. She works really hard on it. She has that indie spirit. She is the manifestation of your worst nightmares :)

Episode X – How to be a Nothing (with Michael Liam Abbott)

Tales of Insecurity is on a brief hiatus, but in the meantime, here is an interview LiA did in an effort to reach out to the community. Whatever community there is. Is that a meaningful term? Is it something anyone has? LiA doesn't really know what people have.

    Episode 8: House of Glass

    Episode 8: House of Glass

LiA has been a bit too self-indulgent lately, and realizes she needs an outside perspective on her show. She likes having all this creative control, but completely unchecked, maybe her thoughts are off somewhere where no one can understand them. Consequently, she has outsourced this week's episode to someone else who doesn't exist, who adapted someone else's play, and maybe LiA won't be so immersed in her own navel for once. We can hope.

    Episode 7: You’re Too Kind

    Episode 7: You’re Too Kind

Do you think about the people around you? Do you worry that you're making too much noise, and that you might accidentally activate your long-term partner's PTSD while you're recording your podcast? This might be a reasonable fear, but maybe you can't practice your accordion because you worry any stranger walking by might experience some slight annoyance. You failed to recycle every bottle! You caused global warming! It's too hard to be alive.

nothing like it in the world

Like a modern variety show, where there is always a hidden gem waiting around the corner. It hits that perfect note of sad, funny, and bleak that is hard to do justice in a review. The songs are catchy and the characters are fascinating and flawed. The skits really stayed with me long after listening to them. A one of a kind podcast for the strange times we live in.

Could use more hope

...but the podcast is otherwise fantastic. Beautifully creative, insightful, and entertaining storytelling, despite the depressing subject matter. Keep it up!

Am I allowed to leave this review?

I feel like it might be kind of an affront to my personal brand to come in here and leave a five-star review, especially since I wince in pain every time I hear the host stumble over her words or try to disguise her voice, but the self-deception that lets one tell oneself that the thing they worked on is the best thing in the world definitely fits into the landscape of quiet desperation where I have pitched my tent. Just as I lie to myself every day that I'm basically fine so I can get out of bed, so can I repeat assurances that I made a good podcast, better than all the other podcasts. This is the podcast I've chosen to be.
