The Telepathy Tapes

I’ve recommended this podcast to so many people. I have an autistic brother and I feel so bad sometimes that we don’t understand why he acts out or his frustrations. This validates so many experiences. Thank you Ky for sharing your tapes and learnings with us. Maybe now people can have more empathy and compassion for the mute that are seen as stupid or different. We muggles have so much to learn.

As an autistic person myself, I am always open to new and fascinating information, and value having the correct information above all else. That said, there is a concerning lack of true critical questioning in this podcast. This feels incredibly biased and seems to rely on swaying the listener purely through an emotional lens. Sometimes the host claims this discovery should be considered science, sometimes she claims it’s rooted solely in spiritually or spiritual gifts. I would like clarification on if she thinks the two work together or if she thinks it’s one or the other. Additionally, the video “evidence” she urges people to watch is behind a pay wall, which feels like an exploitative scam. If you really have the truth and such profound revelations, why make people pay an extra fee for it? Why not just put it on YouTube and monetize the video? Even then, how could people be sure the video is not edited? Was this a controlled study? What are the variables that could have influenced results? Why are none of these questions addressed thoroughly? Once again, as an autistic person myself, the way this is presented and explored gives me a sleazy feeling. You’re working with an incredibly vulnerable population and I believe these claims should be handled cautiously and with an infinite amount of additional care. More than anything, these claims remind me of cases like Tina Resch and other children who claimed to have supernatural powers—although some psychologists were initially swayed, their claims were ultimately debunked. While certainly I think there are things science does not explain, zero compelling evidence has been presented in a good faith, objective way to give credence to these claims. When and if that evidence is available, I would be interested in seeing and hearing it.

I don’t write reviews. Ever. But this show has given me such a visceral experience. Something I can’t put words to. Thank you for this beautiful storytelling and the amazing facts. Gives me the feeling of magic again.
