New Podcast Preview: The Wall of Silence with Chris Marchand

While we are no longer producing new Tent Talks episodes every now and then we will take the opportunity to point listeners to new projects. Tent producer and co-host Chris Marchand has just begun releasing a new podcast we wanted you to be aware of: Wall of Silence. Here is the description: In this first episode we introduce the sexual abuse case of lay pastor Mark Rivera. From there we begin to look outward to see how church leadership responded to it, from the local diocese to the national denomination, the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). As "the thesis," this episode is the explanation for why this podcast exists and whose story we are telling: the advocacy group ACNAtoo and all victims, whistleblowers, and advocates against church abuse in the ACNA.

Representation Politics: Finding the Middle with Claudine and Kuda

Representation Politics: Finding the Middle with Claudine and Kuda

Left, Right, or in the middle? Guest host and previous guest to the Tent Sheyi Martin-Allens presents a series of conversations with black and brown friends from across the political spectrum to discuss their thoughts on having Britain's first Asian prime minister along with a government containing an increasing amount of ethnic minorities. The series works through a number of conflicting questions, such as does having someone with the same skin color as us in positions of power mean we feel represented and do people with the same skin color or ethnic heritage need to hold to the same political views? Episode 3 is the first part of conversations with those who are navigating the tricky Middle: Claudine and Kuda.

Refreshing

It’s refreshing - and such a relief! - to hear in every episode Christians defining the faith by that which is instructed in the Bible. Not capitalism. Not patriotism. But true faith - loving God and TRULY loving our fellow humans. This show explores and dissects the difficult topics, providing references to scripture that inform the hosts’ perspectives. Worth a listen.

Challenging and Refreshing!

It is unique to find a podcast that so specifically ties into my cultural and faith background. This podcast bridges to my past by frankly addressing present struggles I am having and introduces fresh perspective on long engrained, deeply entrenched understandings. I’m grateful for the teaching—sometimes bracing, always eye-opening—combined with discussions and conversations that are welcoming, inspiring, and delightful! Each episode feels like a resource and a provocation. Always looking forward to the next episode!

LOVE the challenges! A suggestion...

More people & podcasts are talking these days about the things Jesus taught (in the 4 gospels), but there are a few of his teachings that almost never get serious coverage. Several references (EXCLUDING the “rich young ruler”) are made in Luke about selling all of one’s possessions & giving to the poor and then this teaching is shown to be taken seriously by the time we get to the book of Acts (end of chapters 2 & 4).

Another powerful & often neglected paradigm-changing (IF taken at face value) teaching of Jesus is found in Mt. 6:24; Lk. 16:13-14). This has been called the “Two Masters teaching”, one being God/Love and the other/opposite one being money.

What would Christianity look like, both inside its confines and to the world at large, if these teachings were given much more serious consideration and application?

Take a leap of faith and dive deep into these teachings! ✌🏼
