Title: The Arrows of Islam Subtitle: Ari Cohen Series, Book 1 Author: Spencer Hawke Narrator: Spencer Hawke Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 9 mins Language: English Release date: 07-21-17 Publisher: Author's Republic Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage Publisher's Summary: Hawke's writing excels, especially during the book's many action sequences. The dialogue in the novel is both crisp and tense but also humorous at times. Hawke spins his international counter-terrorism tale at a breakneck pace starting with the 1999 shoot down of a US super-secret stealth military jet in Bosnia and a terrorist plot to use the plane's technology for nefarious purposes. From there, and over the course of the 10 years after the crash, the action shifts to various international terrorist strongholds, with each playing supporting roles trying to stop the terrorists. The Arrows of Islam is just what a mystery/espionage novel should be - quick, action-packed, and full of intrigue. Members Reviews: Enjoyable 1st read from a new author Overall I enjoyed this book and it was the 1st that I've read by this author. It is a multifaceted geo-political thriller that would appeal to fans of David Baldacci, Vince Flynn and Joel Rosenberg. This the 1st book of a series and there are many opportunities for further character and organizational development. The real problem that I had in reading the book was in the flow & transitions between characters, events and/ or locations. The most prominent of these was the unsuccessful attempt to shoot down a very high level U.S. cabinet member's airplane returning from Russia. My first thought was that maybe my "copy" of the book was simply missing a chapter. Regardless of how I got there, my 1st knowledge of this event was after its occurrence in a conversation between 2 of the main characters. It seemed like a very odd way to introduce such a significant event. I look forward to seeing how the author develops the characters, etc. as the series progresses. I think he has the opportunity to generate a very well received and highly acclaimed series in this genre. average This was a good idea but it could have been developed more. Not a Tom Clancy thriller that is my preferred style. No loss reading in reverse order. Well as the title indicates, I read book two first, and the I was hooked and had to go find and purchase book one of the series. Now I have to bide my time hoping it is not too long before a book three is written and released. If you like thrillers the this is the series to read, I highly recommend it. Great story It'd be a bit naive to think that there is no such thing as organized groups that are plotting the demise of the US. I hope & pray there are characters as dedicated in seeing that these groups fail. An eye opener from beginning to end. Sorry, couldn't finish it. Just a couple of ... Sorry, couldn't finish it. Just a couple of chapters and the believability of the character and situations just weren't there.
