Fire services, with public support, quickly freed the stranded individuals from the stagnant rainwater. Local residents had noticed the vehicle near the bus stand and alerted the authorities, leading to a prompt and successful rescue.In other headlines, Former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy urges nephew Prajwal Revanna to return from Germany and cooperate with the SIT in a sex scandal case, emphasizing the importance of preserving family dignity and reputation. The scandal, involving allegations circulated on pen drives before the Karnataka elections, impacts the family's political legacy and the values of the JD(S) party."Meanwhile, Karnataka prepared for another afforestation drive to plant five crore saplings during the 2024 monsoon.     Let's begin with updates from the city: Amidst an unprecedented drought and severe water crisis, a few citizens have gotten together to launch a change.org petition against illegal borewell drilling and groundwater theft in the city. he petition underscores the alarming depletion of groundwater depletion with some requiring digging of more than 2000 feat after which sometimes, it would not yield any water.Karnataka is grappling with a surge in dengue cases with Bengaluru averaging about 13 cases daily. Of these, Mahadevapura recorded the highest number of cases as per a Bengaluru Mirror report. Dasarahalli is the only BBMP zone that did not record a case of dengue so far. Speaking on the matter, Suralkar Vikas Kishore, Special Commissioner for Health, BBMP said: "Sufficient measures have been taken to control the spread of Dengue fever in the city which is experiencing heavy rainfall."

    A 20-year-old woman was found dead inside the bathroom of her home in Bengaluru yesterday. She was found dead with slit marks on her neck and wrist of her left hand, said police. Yesterday evening, the woman's brother kept knocking on the bathroom door but there was no response. The door was then struck down only to find the woman lying dead on the bathroom floor.  The police told NDTV: "At around 7.30 pm yesterday, a 20-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Prima facie, according to the information available, her hand and neck were cut, and she died of blood loss."In a fresh order issued on Thursday, the BWSSB relaxed the ban allowing apartment complexes, clubs, sporting institutes to use borewell and rainwater to fill swimming pools. However, the order said that none can use the Cauvery water supplied by the board to fill the pools. Earlier, the BWSSB imposed a blanket ban on the use of drinking water including borewells,  as per a report by The Hindu.

Two blackspots identified on the road for accidents, with fines ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 for overspeeding violations.

    Moving on, HD Revanna, Holenarasipura MLA, released on conditional bail on Tuesday, May 14th after spending four days in police custody and six in judicial custody for alleged kidnapping. JD(S) workers celebrate, alleging political conspiracy. Revanna, from former PM Deve Gowda's family, vows legal action against Congress govt's charges. "I believe in god and our judiciary. I'll fight the case legally and come out clean," Revanna asserts.Political turmoil grips Hassan district as the sex scandal involving MP Prajwal Revanna and the arrest of MLA HD Revanna challenge the long-standing dominance of HD Deve Gowda's family.     Lastly: BBMP opts to retain current streetlight contractors for six months without fresh tenders. This decision comes as the civic body plans to transition all 5 lakh streetlights to LED bulbs through a new service provider. In 2023-24, BBMP spent Rs 56.30 crore engaging around three dozen contractors for streetlight maintenance, alongside Rs 300 crore for BESCOM's electricity bill.
