EP030 - How to Break Through Obstacles

EP030 - How to Break Through Obstacles

Whether it’s in our jobs, our relationships, or in pursuing a goal, we all run into obstacles. Something comes along on our journey or process that gets in the way. It could be a difficult co-worker, relational tension with a family member, or an unexpected project assigned by our boss. It could be excruciating and traumatic such as an alcoholic parent, chronic pain or illness, or the death of a loved one.

What we might not realize is that one of our biggest obstacles is our mindset. Our autopilot tends to be that we interpret negative circumstances with a negative meaning.

What if there was a better way? And what if the answer is right between our ears?

In this episode, Pastor Danny shares three steps to overcoming any obstacle.

    1. Recognize that events do not have meaning. We give them meaning.
    2. Realize you have the power to choose how you interpret events.
    3. Act as your own coach.

EP029 - How to Make Great Choices

EP029 - How to Make Great Choices

The average person makes 35,000 choices a day. (226 of them are just about food!) While it’s true that our choices are not the only thing that shapes our future, they play a huge part. In fact, we are where we are today primarily because of the choices we have made. Our choices have consequences in big and small ways, and when we make great choices, we get to partner with God in shaping our future.

In this episode, Pastor Danny shares six strategies to help us get better at making great choices:

    1. Decide ahead of time.

    2. Play the movie.

    3. Get all the information.

    4. Run your decisions past a trusted, wiser friend.

    5. Look at what the Scriptures say.

    6. Ask, “Does this choice help me get to where I want to go?”

EP028 - Why Consistency is the Key to Success

EP028 - Why Consistency is the Key to Success

We all have goals and desires for the most important areas of our lives. We want the best for our health, careers, marriages, and relationships. Most of us set out to make positive changes with the best intentions. We hit the ground running, but over time the desires fade, we lose our motivation, and we don’t see the results we hoped.

What happened? We lacked consistency. Consistency is key to creating the results that we want to see. Yet, we struggle with it. We live in an instant-gratification culture. We want results quickly. We also get distracted, prefer comfort over discomfort, and know that there isn’t a high cost to miss a day here and there.

So, how do we get started and stick with it? Pastor Danny shares three insights:

    1. Decide what you want.

    2. Put it on your schedule.

    3. Seek accountability.

EP027 - How to Develop Mental Strength

EP027 - How to Develop Mental Strength

Our minds are a lot like our bodies. Just as physical strength varies from person to person, mental strength varies as well. Two people can experience the same type of problem; however, how they handle the problem can be completely different.

The consequences of a lack of mental strength can be high. We can struggle to handle pressure at work. Bad news can get us down too long. We can develop relationships issues. We can regularly cave to temptation. We can become easily discouraged by negative circumstances.

The truth is that our mental strength determines how well we will deal with life. We can learn to develop mental strength in 3 ways:

    1. Choose a growth mindset.

    2. Focus energy on what we can influence.

    3. Tell ourselves a positive story.

Marriage talks

My husband and I attend Emmanuel church and love the sermons about marriage that Danny and Jackie do together. We are about to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary in august and feel as though because of the foundation through the church and by following the guidance thru the marriage sermons we’ve been able to strength our marriage tremendously. We just had our 1st child in April and have been using so many tips they talked about. I throughly enjoy listening to these podcasts throughout my week!
