THE CARL ARRINGTON ARCHIVE

THE CARL ARRINGTON ARCHIVE features excerpts from hundreds of hours of rare interviews with a who’s who of the biggest names in music and film, along with esteemed authors of the day, conducted over forty years by veteran journalist Carl Arrington. One of the most respected journalists covering pop culture during the ’60s  thru the ‘00s, Carl was the music editor for People Magazine and had stints at the NY Post and Detroit Free Press.  He spent decades talking to the most major influential talents of the era including Madonna, Michael Jackson, Bob Seger, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Carrie Fisher, Ozzy Osbourne, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Patti Smith, Nora Ephron and scores of others – often at crucial moments in the course of their iconic careers. His interview with Tina Turner was featured in the recent award-winning HBO documentary “TINA!”  This unique collection of original audio tapes, the CARL ARRINGTON ARCHIVE, eloquently captures the voices of artists in their own words, revealing their most intimate thoughts and dreams as they sat down for lengthy conversations with Arrington, who had a  gift for creating a safe haven for them to share what was going on in their hearts and minds. As a freelance writer for Time Magazine and Rolling Stone as well as a rock critic and editor for the legendary Circus Magazine, cultural commentator for CBS Radio and People Magazine and a movie reviewer, Arrington’s encyclopedic knowledge and talent allowed him to chronicle what many consider a peak time in the world of entertainment and offer a truly authentic glimpse into the lives of these legendary artists. THE CARL ARRINGTON ARCHIVE Episode 10 Elvis Presley's MEMPHIS MAFIA 1984

THE CARL ARRINGTON ARCHIVE Episode 10 features an excerpt of Carl's original interviews with two members of Elvis Presley’s MEMPHIS MAFIA, Joe Esposito and Pat Parry, recorded in Los Angeles in 1984.  Nobody was like Elvis Presley. Even now he’s revered as the King of Rock and Roll. But even as he was globally famous he lived a private and eccentric life at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. The people who knew him best were a tightly knit group of 9 individuals that came to be known as the Memphis Mafia. On the occasion of what would have been Elvis’s 50th birthday, there was a special issue of People Magazine in remembrance of his incredible life, for which Carl interviewed the key figures of the music icon’s inner circle in Los Angeles in December of 1984. This special double episode features two original Memphis Mafia members: JOE ESPOSITO, who functioned as Elvis’s personal manager for 17 years, and PAT PARRY aka "Patricia," who also spent nearly two decades with him and was the only girl in the bunch. These interview excerpts reveal what it was like to live with the most famous man in the world and what the music legend would have been like had he lived beyond his 42 years.
