How To Adapt To Google’s Helpful Content & Core Updates

How To Adapt To Google’s Helpful Content & Core Updates

Learn how to create better, more authoritative content that complies with Google's revised helpful content guidelines.

How do you ensure your site complies with the latest search engine standards?

What’s the best way to keep up with constant algorithm changes while fulfilling your customers’ needs?

Google’s latest helpful content update emphasizes the importance of providing users with engaging, helpful content.

Not only should your content strategy maintain sound SEO principles and keyword rankings, but it should also be helpful to humans and relevant to their search queries.

On October 19, Search Engine Journal moderated a webinar with Dave Snyder, CEO and Founder of CopyPress, and Jeremy Rivera, Director of Content Analysis at CopyPress.

Google announced the helpful content update in August to better connect people to helpful information. It’s part of a broader effort to ensure people see that more original, helpful content is written by people, for people, in search results.

    What we discussed:

Use Expert Insights: Real, satisfying content comes from expertise. Develop deeper, more satisfying content by surfacing the real difference and the real answers.
Leverage Expertise To Actually Tackle People Also Ask (PAAs): Featured snippets and “people also ask…” are common search elements. Even better, they make good starting points for actual subject matter experts to include.
Use Content Strategy Outside Of SEO Data: Discuss “pain points” with your product managers, salespeople, and support staff.
    Implement The 3-Point Process

Learn to adapt to the recent Google algorithm updates!

Google’s Helpful Content & Core Updates

Google’s Helpful Content & Core Updates

Experts initially cited the Helpful Content Update as Google’s biggest update for over a decade since the original Panda update in early 2011. Was it the “bigger panda”? But the initial rollout seemed a bit of a non-event and people began to wonder what all the fuss was about.

Then Google announced that its next core update was rolling out. Was the Helpful Content Update simply a change in the algorithm that required the Core update to implement?

    On this podcast we discussed:

What happened (or didn’t!) with Google’s initial rollout of the Helpful Content Update?
What does Google’s Core update mean in conjunction with the Helpful Content Update?
Where should content marketers and good SEOs be focusing their attention now?
Which sites have shown movement in the SERPs as a result of recent changes?
Examples of site and content that will likely be penalized from these updates.

We discuss much of what you need to know about Google’s Helpful Content update.

    About Google’s Helpful Content Update

    About Google’s Helpful Content Update

After much anticipation (and SEO trepidation!) Google finally started rolling out its “Helpful Content Update” to the world on August 25th. The results? For what seemed like more of a PR exercise with a great deal of chatter and speculation amongst the content and SEO community, the initial results from the first rollouts were apparently non-existent.

In the first of our updates on this Helpful Content launch, we meet to discuss initial thoughts.

We will release an update after September 13, 2022, which will be more than two weeks after rollout and at a point where we can make more definitive statements.

    On this webinar we discussed:

What Google is telling us about where they intended to move with the public relations (PR) push around this update.
The one-week PR push pre-update with so little happening within the first few days of the update.
What will we see over the next two weeks?
In terms of Google’s now-famous Panda update in 2011, the language is VERY similar in terms of what Google is telling us makes good content at the time of both launches.
Google in Panda (and, really, most updates) would tell us the number of queries affected, and yet nothing this time. We have no idea how big or small this thing is.

We discuss much of what you need to know about Google’s Helpful Content update.

But what of Google’s recent announcement on AI writing?

Businesses need quality content and AI content is here to stay. The promise of clicking a button to generate content on any topic is appealing. And let’s face it, how can humans ever create content like a machine can, 24/7?!

Is AI-generated content as good as human-created content?
What about SEO; what does Google say?
