    The Four Pillars

What are the four pillars of NVC? ObservationsEmotionsThe NeedState Your Request (CTA) These pillars, which will be discussed further in this minisode, are pivotal in your way of communication, like a giraffe. What is a giraffe in terms of NVC? Giraffes possess some of the biggest hearts among all animals, with dimensions reaching up to 60 cm and weighing around 10 kg. Within the framework of Nonviolent Communication, the giraffe represents a desire to communicate and listen with kindness and empathy — truly embodying a large heart! Moreover, these creatures feed on foliage from trees with sharp thorns (like acacia trees), thanks to their resilient lips and flexible tongues enable them to maneuver around the thorns skillfully. Symbolically, this gives giraffes the ability to handle difficult discussions deftly! Have you been in a situation like this before? What is NVC

What is NVC (non-violent communication)? It is a form of communication designed to enhance comprehension and empathy among individuals. This approach rests on the belief that every person possesses the ability for compassion and that meeting the needs of everyone is an essential aspect of being human. What does it mean for you? Drop your comments! ----------- Welcome to The Dialogic Approach; we are hosts Rachelle Carrié and Dr. Funmi Aguocha! We are two Black Professional Women in Leadership roles who have combined our subject matter experiences to better suit high-achieving women leaders in the workplace and at home. This is where we help you with nuances of dialogues. ----------- KEY TAKEAWAYS - psychologist Marshall Rosenberg developed NVC in the 1960s and 1970s. - NVC evokes empathy - giraffe and jackal (what each represents) Here are several suggestions for practicing Nonviolent Communication (NVC):     - Pay attention to your word choice: Opt for clear, specific language that avoids judgment.   Engage in active listening: Try to comprehend the other individual's viewpoint with an open heart.   - Follow a four-step approach: Observe, identify feelings, recognize needs, and articulate requests.   - Acknowledge your needs: Incorporate your feelings and requirements into your expression.   Evaluate actions and circumstances: Assess whether they align with your values instead of passing judgments. --------------- I am a dedicated executive coach who empowers and supports high-achieving women. The Power in Empathy

How do we bring power in empathy? Empathy is a skill that embraces all people and perspectives. Can you imagine being in a meeting with someone who can empathize with you? The empathetic listener activates the cingulate cortex in our brain. What does empathy not mean? It does mean shouldering someone's luggage. It means putting yourself in their shoes and using words like, " I understand," "I can see that you are upset," and "Your feelings are valid." It allows someone to feel heard. When empathy fails, stop, pause, and listen to yourself. Catching yourself not empathetic is okay. You always have the time to recalibrate. Have you been in a situation like this before? Drop your comments! ----------- Welcome to The Dialogic Approach; we are hosts Rachelle Carrié and Dr. Funmi Aguocha!
