A New World: GAAD, The Pandemic and Distance Learning
Since 2011, each year, the third Thursday in May is Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
Every user deserves a first-rate digital experience on the web. Someone with a disability must be able to experience web-based services, content and other digital products with the same successful outcome as those without disabilities. This awareness and commitment to inclusion is the goal of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), a global event that shines a light on digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
The recent pandemic brought home the importance of global accessibility. Over the past few weeks we have been discussing our personal experiences during the pandemic.

Let’s talk Audio Description
In this episode we talk about audio description, what it is/means to us and what makes it awesome! Did you know there are so many different areas that audio description is used in? It isn’t just in movies, but it is also utilized in live performances - like a ballet, or broadway show, video games, game shows, TV series, or episodes, educational videos and more. One area it is not being utilized in currently is on YouTube videos. Hopefully soon; we want full access! Audio description adds value for everyone, not just the visually impaired.
This episode was recorded during our weekly meetups in the months of March and April 2023.

It’s Complicated
This month CareersPLUS has been exploring the world of relationships and for a lot of us, sighted and blind, young and old, the world of inter-personal relationships is a lot like taking a test, uncomfortable, anxiety inducing and something none of us look forward to. Put blindness, the internet, shyness, loving but sometimes overly protective parents, family and friends and it can become a painfully awkward situation. Friendship, romantic, school or work, we all need to interact with each other and a friendly compass to help us navigate the social road.
This episode was recorded during our weekly meetups in the month of February 2023.
