After a 10 year break they've returned! The Ongoing Conversation about Movies and their Meaning with Jett Loe and Gareth Higgins continues to explore what films are really telling us about our lives and world, what we can learn about life through the eyes of others, and how movies can help us get through hard times - and affirm us in the better ones.

[BONUS] Seven Days in May - Tubi or Not Tubi?
Well this was quite the episode, perhaps being behind a ‘paywall’ allows us to be a bit looser, a bit opener? Maybe that’s just a way of saying we free-associated like mad in this very “relaxed” Bonus Episode in which a new segment is unveiled: Tubi or Not Tubi?
You see, we have this “free ad-supported television” service called Tubi in the U.S. of America, which has a fantastic selection of classic films, but let’s be honest, they’re not all gold. In ’Tubi or Not Tubi” Jett investigates whether a film on Tubi is really worth your time. For this inaugural segment Jett watches the classic John Frankenheimer directed, Rod Serling penned, political thriller Seven Days in May, starring Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster - both at the height of their powers.
Along the way Gareth recommends new documentaries Steve! and It’s Only Life after all, we get into the strangeness of another political thriller with Burt Lancaster, Twilight’s Last Gleaming, ruminate on the hamminess of Joe Don Baker, wonder what could have been if Lawrence Olivier was in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and so much more. Hope ya like it. -
Civil War
Can we experience our experiences without taking photographs of them? This is one of the many questions asked in Jett and Gareth’s look at the brilliant, picaresque horror film from Alex Garland: Civil War. Along the way they relate the movie to such work as Andor, Cold Mountain, Salvador and even After Earth, and decide we all need an avalanche of kindness in the world. French philosopher René Girard is in the mix as well, along with thoughts on the career of Anthony Perkins. Also we spoil the end of The Godfather Part III. #GentleJesse

Perfect Days, Louis Gossett Jr. and M. Emmet Walsh
This may be one of the most far-ranging and far-reaching shows yet. Gareth and Jett get into the beautiful and sublime Wim Wender's film Perfect Days, look, and listen to, M. Emmet Walsh in Straight Time and The Iron Giant, marvel at Louis Gossett Jr.'s performance in Enemy Mine and Jaws 3-D, (the third dimension is terror), explore the Wings of Desire Cinematic Universe, wonder about Alejandro Jodorowsky as regards to Alexander Payne's The Holdovers and even find time to shoehorn in a few thoughts about Rod Steiger and Ray Bradbury's The Illustrated Man. Remember, “learn how to see, and in the act of doing so, learn how to be.”

Dune: Part 2
It's arguably the best horror film of our age. In this deep dive into Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part 2, Jett and Gareth talk about the film's relation to the 'myth of redemptive violence', bring in L.A. Confidential, The Manchurian Candidate, The Exorcist: Believer, personal trauma, the DP of that Dollar Shave Club ad, David Lynch's beautiful attempt at a Dune and more.

[Unaired Pilot] Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and an Alan Arkin Appreciation
Is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny the best film in the franchise? Gareth makes that argument and Jett is floored by Alan Arkin’s performance in The Rocketeer in this unaired pilot of The Film Talk Reboot from July 2023.

Customer Reviews
The Conversation Never Ends Indeed.
Thoughtful, Informative, playful, fun, insightful, and just a profound delight - the Film Talk is back! One of my favorite podcasts. Jett and Gareth are amazing hosts. The show is a joy to listen to through and through and maybe, JUST MAYBE, we’ll all come out on the other side of each episode a little kinder, a little more thoughtful, and a little more hopeful that there’s still good in the world and that there are films out there that tell stories that can indeed help us live better. RUN! Don’t walk. And go listen the show!
Films, talking, heart!
A joy to be a part (even if just listening) of the friendliest disagreements about film you can easily find. Gareth and Jett are a joy to hear and happily drill down into movies and meaning in a most accessible way!
It’s Baaaaaackkkkk!!!
So good. No one does it better. Two thumbs way up!
