The Gentleman From Hell
An entire town… gone. Without a trace. No signs, no warnings. Just silence. This is the story of Cold Sparrow. Twenty-four years ago, the peaceful town of Cold Sparrow became the center of one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in modern history. Every resident vanished. Among them, the enigmatic billionaire Benjamin Veers, whose strange ways made him an icon of intrigue. The town, once forgotten, now infamous. The questions? Endless. The answers? Nonexistent. For over two decades, investigators have been left baffled—cults, kidnappings, disappearances—none have led them closer to the truth. But now, three celebrated private investigators—famous for bringing down one of the most dangerous cults in history—have been called upon to tackle this mystery. Known for taking on the cases no one else could solve, they’re determined to uncover what really happened in Cold Sparrow. Yet, the deeper they dig, the darker the whispers become. Rumours swirl of something far more sinister than anyone ever imagined. Could the mystery of Cold Sparrow be tied to forces that reach far beyond our world? Could it be linked to something… infernal? Some mysteries, once uncovered, may be better left untouched. Cold Sparrow: A town that disappeared… but something still lingers in the shadows. The investigation begins… now. Hosted on Acast. I wasn’t sure if I liked this show but then I listened to 10 episodes in a day. So I think I must like it.

Sounds Effects for everything

Dude easy up on the sound effects. Where’s the farts? If you are going to go so overboard with the sound effects gotta have farts and other stuff in there.
Good concept, execution isn’t quite there yet

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this show. I’m writing this review after episode 7, and it feels as though the show is also still trying to decide what it is. The opening few episodes, featuring found audio with a great story within a story device, promised an exploration of a mysterious town where everyone vanished. The show, however, winds up being three supernatural investigators locked in a haunted house. The main mystery gets forgotten in favor of jump scares. After seven episodes, I struggle to find any forward momentum to the story. It’s also unclear when the show takes place, as every character speaks in antiquated 1920s dialect but they reference modern technology (e.g. earbuds). There’s also some confusion in the first few episodes as a few voice actors cover multiple parts. I was really hoping that this series would offer a great ongoing mystery (ala The Magnus Archives, who brought this show to my attention) but it’s mainly been a show about a haunted house and not a vanishing town.
