Each month hosts Elsbeth Magilton (Girls Code Lincoln board president) and Aakriti Agrawal (co-founder and operations director) profile a historical woman in STEM and introduce listeners to a coder, engineer, or scientist in the Midwest. Girls Code Lincoln is a community organization in Lincoln Nebraska that teaches 4th-9th graders coding and confidence through free weekly clubs, as well as public events to promote technology literacy across the community. This podcast is great for family listening in the car and is probably most interesting to kids over 9 and into adulthood. Content is always appropriate for all ages. Our theme music is 'Then it Went Like' by Grace Mesa. Lysandra Marquez is our producer.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, has completed the FBI National Academy; Harvard Kennedy School’s State and Local Government; and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police. On this episode we talk about her journey, leadership lessons, learning, and everything in between.

Jona Van Deun Tech Refactored Crossover Episode | June
Taking a break is part of being leader and Aakriti and Elsbeth are putting that into practice this summer. We don’t have a new episode for you this month - but we just couldn’t leave you like that! Elsbeth is also the producer and sometimes host of another show, Tech Refactored, and we're delighted to share a special crossover episode! This December on Tech Refactored Elsbeth welcomed Jona Van Deun, the executive director of the Nebraska Tech Collaborative. The collaborative is a a business-led workforce initiative committed to convening leaders from government, education, and not-for-profit organizations across the state to develop, attract, and retain tech-talent and entrepreneurs to Nebraska.

Meet Ashley Votruba! Dr. Votruba's research at the University of Nebraska examines how cognitive biases and culture influences legal decision-making in the areas of alternative dispute resolution, tort law, criminal law, and family law. She spoke with Elsbeth and Aakriti on working during college, wanting to be a marine biologist in a landlocked state, and those amazing "a-ha!" moments in data science.

Dorothy Denning and Deanna House | May
One this episode we learn about Dorothy Denning, a computer scientist and cybersecurity expert who is best known for her work on encryption and security. Elsbeth also interviews Dr. Deanna House, an Assistant Professor in the Information Systems & Quantitative Analysis department in the College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Her research interests are related to the behavioral aspects of cybersecurity and the protective and preventative measures performed by users and organizations.
