Episode 57: A Conversation with Author & The Drummer of Zepparella Clementine Moss

The Goddess & The Medicine Woman

In this episode Melissa & Sydney have a rock & roll conversation with Clementine Moss.

Clementine is the founder and drummer of Zepparella, with a busy solo career as a singer and songwriter. Her book, "From Bonham to Buddha and Back: The Slow Enlightenment of the Hard Rock Drummer" uses her music career as metaphor for contemplative practice. Clem moved to New York City with a creative writing degree after college, and her writing path gave way to a musical one when she found drumming. In 2016, she began her blog Bliss and Drumming, and many of those pieces are found in various forms in, and were the impetus for, her book: Clementine is a spiritual counselor and a nondenominational Minister at The Foundation for the Sacred Stream. Using the modalities of Depth Hypnosis, Applied Shamanism, Energy Medicine, Sound Healing, and Morphic Awakening techniques, Clem has an active healing practice. She is certified in Contemplative Psychotherapy and Conflict Resolution. A Vipassana meditator for over thirty years, her study and personal practice spans many traditions. She lives in San Francisco with music manager and musician Tim Moss, and Henry the pug. Her writing has appeared in Modern Drummer Magazine, Memoir Magazine, and several other on- line publications.

Melissa talks about Clems book and how much she is enjoying it. She also talks about being a drummer herself.

Clem talks about becoming a drummer and musician at the age of 27 and how she moved to New York City to become a writer, but found herself taking drum lessons and playing in bands. She found her way back to writing by writing lyrics first.

She discusses her upbringing and how she developed a love for music from her father who always had music playing in the house. She talks about how she split from her father by listening to Led Zeppelin and how she made that music her own.

Sydney talks about how music can help with the internal process of spirituality. Clem discusses how music started out as an escape for her because she didn't fit in and about how she always seemed to be looking forward instead of noticing what was happening in the moment and how she learned to focus on the now.

Clementine talks about bringing music and spirituality together during a retreat. She discusses how she could feel the same stillness during her concerts as she had felt during meditation. How she gets to the place of no-thought and how the music moves through her.

Bringing spirit into her music and finding her practice within the drums. Reminding us that we can find healing and spirit no matter where we are or what we are doing.

Clem talks about Shamanism and how she sees that practice as she guides people back to their own power. Learning how to become the observer of your life.

Listening to your true voice within.
