Elevating My Career: Reflections on Growth and New Beginnings

In this episode of The Goode Guide, I share a deeply personal and professional milestone: my decision to leave Los Angeles and move back to Minneapolis. After nearly five years of remote work and career growth, this transition represents both a new beginning and a chanceto reflect on the lessons I’ve learned along the way. The episode explores my journey from entry-level roles to becoming a director at Target. While I’m grateful for the milestones, promotions, and team expansions I’ve experienced, this move is about more than career growth. It’s about reconnecting with in-person collaboration and the energy that comes from working directly with a team—something remote work couldn’t fully replace. Preparing for this move has also meant saying goodbye to my West Hollywood home, a place that became a sanctuary during challenging times. This moment represents letting go of the familiar to embrace new opportunities, with the unwavering support of my leaders and loved ones making the transition smoother. I also take this time to share my vision for The Goode Guide. Over the past two seasons, the podcast has grown into more than a platform for stories—it’s evolving into a space for women in leadership. I’m excited to create leadership courses, tools, and a community where women can connect, share experiences, and learn together. This new chapter isn’t without challenges, like stepping outside my comfort zone in areas like social media and website development. But I’m committed to embracing growth and pushing boundaries. Thank you for being part of my journey through season two of The Goode Guide. Wishing you a joyful holiday season, and I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you in the new year. Today on The Goode Guide  podcast, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Colleen Slaughter, an international leadership coach who has spent years helping leaders around the world find clarity, courage, and confidence. Her journey from Kentucky to Paris at just 21 years old is nothing short of remarkable, and she shares how that bold step shaped her approach to life and coaching.   We dive into the challenges of shifting from an American mindset to a European one, especially when working in France. Breaking Free: Navigating Code Switching and Authenticity in Your Career with Phoebe Gavin

Today, we are diving into a truly eye-opening conversation on The Goode Guide! I had the pleasure of sitting down with the remarkable Phoebe Gavin, a career leadership coach and the driving force behind empowering professionals to break free from cultural messaging that places work above all else. Known for her powerful voice in publications like Time, Fortune, and Fast Company, Phoebe’s mission focuses on supporting ambitious women—especially women of color, through the complexities of workplace challenges and transitions, all with a deeply empathetic and identity-aware approach. We start our conversation by unpacking the concept of code-switching, a reality for many professionals, particularly those from marginalized communities, in the workplace. Phoebe brings a refreshing perspective, describing code-switching as a neutral tool—something you can choose to use or not based on your unique needs and goals. We discuss the mental and emotional impacts of constantly monitoring oneself and how liberating it can be to make choices driven by personal preference rather than external expectations. As we dig deeper, we explore authenticity in the workplace. Phoebe introduces a powerful Venn diagram visual that shows how you can stay true to your authentic self while adapting to different professional settings. This approach makes it possible to maintain integrity while adjusting to diverse environments, allowing you to show up as yourself in any context—whether in leadership or informal roles. We also navigate the complexities of a multi-generational workplace, particularly post-pandemic. Phoebe stresses the importance of approaching colleagues from different generations with curiosity and without judgment. By connecting genuinely and understanding each individual’s preferences, we can foster a work environment that's both inclusive and collaborative. One of the highlights of our discussion centers on introversion and extroversion. Phoebe clears up common misconceptions, reminding us that these labels are often confused with social skills or anxiety. She encourages us to see social skills as abilities anyone can develop with the right guidance and practice, no matter where you fall on the introvert-extrovert spectrum. As we wrap up, Phoebe offers essential advice for early-career professionals: set boundaries and learn the subtle art of saying "no" in ways that honor your needs. Her insights are invaluable for anyone wanting to build a career that aligns with their values and personal style. I loved this conversation with Phoebe, and I hope you find her insights as inspiring and actionable as I did. Whether you're navigating code-switching, honing your leadership style, or thriving in a multi-generational team, this episode is full of practical tips and thoughtful reflections.
