The Gritty Nurse Podcast

You can't have integrity without grit, right? Our podcast examines hot topics related to health and healthcare. We shy away from nothing, discussing topics such as mental health, social justice, women's health and women's rights. We are story-tellers and love hearing how healthcare has impacted individuals' lives. We want to discuss the good, bad and ugly . We also provide a platform for empowerment and shared experiences, where we represent voices that have been silenced, underrepresented and marginalized --so they can share their stories of hope, change and inspiration. Episodes are informative, gritty, humorous and educational.
Fantastic

This is a FANTASTIC podcast and a breath of fresh air for me. I was recently introduced to this podcast after listening to Amie and Sara on Nurses Uncorked. Their education/experience and background is extremely impressive and I love how they talk about the real issues in our profession while making it engaging, real, and in a way that listeners can truly connect with. Keep it up ladies!!!
Misinformation based on Critical Race Theory
Feb 17
Right off the get go in S6:E3, they spew misinformation: as nurses they should know there are genetic differences in immunity between different racial and ethnic groups. These differences are shaped by evolutionary pressures, such as historical exposure to pathogens, environmental conditions, and genetic drift. Black people, for example, have the sickle cell trait (HBB gene mutation), which provides resistance to malaria, and which has been a strong selective pressure in sub-Saharan Africa. The idea that race is only a “social construct” stems from critical race theory, itself a degenerate offshoot of Marxist theory. Conclusion: the misinformation provided by these podcasters is not only biased but predicated on a discredited nonscientific theory. Sad!
So thankful

I just want to express sincere gratitude for this space. It is the medicine I needed to nourish my spirit after becoming a patient secondary to being a nurse. This intentional listen has been self care in every sense of the term. Namaste my sisters, thank you for your love offering to the world. I appreciate your intention, your love, and your light. May you always be blessed 🙏🏾
Love nursing with no filter!
04/25/2022
I’ve loved the few episodes of heard so far! Being filtered while talking about nursing is so contradictory because our job is the raw reality of life and death. If medical care has no filter we shouldn’t either. Something I would love to hear about is what nurses do when they retire. My mom is a flight nurse of 30+ years about to retire. Her identity has heavily revolved around who she is aa a nurse. I’d love to hear from other retired nurses how they let go of the profession and live a life without working as a nurse. Nursing takes in so much more than your time during the week, it becomes a part of who we are to an extent. Even 5 years into my career that boggles my mind of how to let go of something that is a part of you.
