The History of England
This my re-telling of the story of England, which is a regular, chronological podcast, starting from the end of Roman Britain. There are as many of the great events I can squeeze in, of course, but I also try to keep an eye on how people lived, their language, what was important to them, the forces that shaped their lives and destinies, that sort of thing. 32yo man from US here, if that helps you guys at all with advertising. I could not love this podcast more if I tried. I’ve listened to every episode, and some episodes more than once (had to re-listen to Agincourt a few times 🙂) Whether at work, in the car, or around the house - David is a master of his craft, and my days are made better by his work. As an American of English & Scottish descent, this podcast has allowed me not only to learn the history of my people & the events my ancestors lived through - but thoroughly enjoy it. THANK YOU DAVID!

I love love love this podcast. The history of England has always been vague and confusing but David explains almost year by year what happened and how it fit together …or not. It sounds dry but it’s fascinating and entertaining the way he creates stories out of what historians know and don’t know. He often has me laughing out loud. I appreciate his explanations of sources, interpretations over the centuries by historians, oral descriptions of geography, life in the Middle Ages, what the rest of Europe was doing, and summaries. His website is packed full of maps, books, time lines, etc. i also like the birds chirping in the background. I listen to it everyday during my commute. I’m now at 1217 after a wonderful clarification of the Magna Carta. Thanks, David.
