#053 Wade Eyerly - Optimism and Confidence

Wade Eyerly talks about his upbringing and how moving around actually helped him learn how to “start” in any environment. Wade also shares his thoughts on what makes a good parent, and why intention is necessary in relationships. Wade talks about his ethos behind hiring and what makes a good candidate - especially in the start up phase. Wade also shares details behind some of his ventures like Surf Air and Degree Insurance, and talks about how he started out.   Highlighted Quote “Figure it Out” When I hire, I don't need the world's greatest accountant, I need an average accountant… anyone who can do the job… that's all I'm looking for from a competency standpoint. So if you come in and you've been an accountant for 10 years, you can do the job. The question is, can you get it done and figure it out? That makes you the person that can fit our team versus not. In startups that's incredibly important and it's not as important in big companies. there's nothing wrong going to Bank of America it is a fine career choice… but in your as you sit in your desk, there is someone over your shoulder, who was in that just 18 months ago, so you can turn around and say “what do I do now?” and they'll have an answer... at a startup, there is no one there. If you have to come to me and say “what do I do now?” I have to stop what I'm doing, pull my eyes off the horizon as the CEO, and figure out what you need to do… and I consider that your job.   Resources/Mentions:    Company Degree Insurance Surf Air   Book Range   Guest Links Website Twitter  LinkedIn Podcast Links: Instagram: @Hopestrategy  Facebook: @hopestrategy  Twitter: @thehopestrategy Youtube The Hope Strategy

#049 Jonathan Beninson - Intention & Human Solutions

Jonathan Beninson shares his background and beginnings in entrepreneurship along with thoughts about imposter syndrome, “enoughness”, and what it truly takes to “win”. Jonathan also talks about his belief that “human problems have human solutions” and shares how his desire to help solve some of those problems brought him to his latest project: Arkhaven - a company dedicated to creating self sustaining housing that provides energy, food and water to residents.    Highlighted Quote   “Imposter Syndrome” We all have something about ourselves that is always with us but that we don't like to look at. Maybe something that drives us, something that we feel embarrassed by... for a lot of people it's a sense of imposter syndrome. I can tell you the number of people in my life who are people you've heard of probably, who are CEOs who are otherwise thought leaders, influencers, etc. I can tell you that, by and large, many of them, most of them even have the sense of imposter syndrome. My advice to anyone who cares, is make friends with that, whatever it is, because it's going to be with you and it's in there's nothing you're going to do to get rid of it. It's your passenger and it's probably the fuel in your tank and and when everything is said and done, chances are, wherever you succeed in your life It's probably because of that thing...it's probably your strongest investment.   Resources/Mentions:  8Mile - Film Humans Need Not Apply Happiness Lab Arkhaven Guest Links Linkedin Beninson.com Podcast Links: Instagram: @Hopestrategy  Facebook: @hopestrategy  Twitter: @thehopestrategy Youtube The Hope Strategy

#48 Dallas Jenkins - Making "The Chosen"

Dallas Jenkins shares how his desire to be a filmmaker was sparked early on in life, along with a mission to help inspire and instill passion in others. Dallas shares how he ventured into “Hollywood” with his first feature film Hometown Legend. Since then Dallas has used every opportunity to learn, study his craft and dedicate his work to creating true impact both on and off screen. Now a Writer and Director of “The Chosen” Dallas’s goal is to “provide loaves and fishes” and allow God to multiply them. This episode is a great look at faith, trust and goals.       Highlighted Quote “Impact” There's a scene in “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest”, where Jack Nicholson is denied the ability to watch the World Series in the mental hospital that he is in. So he stands in front of the TV and starts doing a fake play by play of the World Series to just pretend like he's watching and it gets all the other guys excited and, and all these patients are standing around the television and cheering and going crazy. That scene changed my life! I was like “whatever that is... I want to do that.” I want to arouse in audiences the kind of emotion that that scene did for me. It was just such a big moment cinematically but also just for me personally… that impact! I wanted to do that for others. That's when I started to want to become a filmmaker.
