    Tracy Postert and Lucie Corden

The I in Us is an Australian-based radio show about the intersex community, by the intersex community, for everyone. On this week’s show, Paul welcomed intersex artists Houston (USA) based Tracy Postert and UK-based Lucie Corden. Tracy Postert’s parents learned she is intersex when she was 5 years old and has been on estrogen since age 12. She didn’t learn she is intersex until age 50. Tracy became a social activist, gained a Bachelor’s degree, a PhD in bio-medicine, a Masters in Science Education, and a post-graduate fellowship -all leading to her working as a teacher and college instructor. At age 25 Tracy visited the faculty library and figured out she might have the innate variation in sex characteristics, Androgen Insensitivity. Spending all these years in the science, medical and educational space didn’t bring Tracy closer to having this confirmed. Finally, at the age of 50, all would be revealed! At age 54, Tracy received “intersex services” from a medical doctor for the very first time. As a long-time activist this passion sees Tracy speaking up for intersex rights and using her visual art as a vehicle to spread the word about our community. This is both figuratively and practically after her van was stolen, Tracy repainted the van rainbow with a generous covering of intersex flags. Lucie Corden is a feminine intersex woman. Her parents learned she was born with an innate variation in sex characteristics when she was 5 months old. She endured operations from as young as 12 and has been on hormone replacement therapy all her life. But like Tracy, being intersex doesn’t define Lucie. She loves life, is married to a wonderful man with a similar intersex variation. Lucie has worked as a makeup artist, visual artist, barista, and an active and passionate advocate for intersex rights. Intersex Awareness Day 2024

Happy Intersex Awareness Day 2024! The I in Us is an Australian-based radio show about the intersex community, by the intersex community, for everyone. On this week’s show, Paul and guest co-host Cody Smith celebrated International Intersex Awareness Day being held on Saturday Oct 26. They welcomed intersex veterinarian Dr Channy McGowan and Aotearoa/New Zealand intersex advocate Georgia Andrews. Paul, Cody and their guests talked about the history of International Intersex Awareness Day, why the day is important to the intersex community and shared updates about the status of work to achieve legislative protections for intersex people living in Victoria and elsewhere in Australia. Georgia, who works closely with Stephanie Lum as the Stakeholder Manager at YOUth&I, an Australian-based intersex youth publication, gave us a sneak peek into the soon to be released fourth edition. She read poetry submitted by intersex youth from across the globe. Profoundly personal, the poetry evoked much emotion, bringing Paul and his guests to tears – so before you listen, grab some tissues. Paul was thrilled to premiere “Avarice”, the newest song by Melbourne-based independent intersex musician Nyx, from Nyx and the Nightmakers. Aces Fox

The I in Us this week brings to the JOY airwaves another incredible, truly moving episode.   The exceptional host, Paul, and amazing guest co-host, Cody Smith, interview Aces Fox, this week’s fabulous special guest.  Aces joins the program from across the miles in Seattle, Washington, USA.  Now, tune into JOY 94.9 and enjoy this intriguing and highly educational episode. At the age of nineteen years, Aces was confirmed intersex; having both XY and XO sex chromosomes.  Therefore, Aces is a true hermaphrodite and a chimera.  This means that two people become one person, very shortly after conception.  Even more exciting on The I in Us this week, we learn that our special guest, Aces, enjoyed a full term pregnancy.  Aces delivered a child, fathered by another human with XY sex chromosomes, naturally into this world.   Aces is thus a biological parent. Aces further chats to The I in Us about a couple more amazing triumphs.  Four years ago, Aces created and produced America’s first ever K-pop radio show, hosted by Aces’ own non-binary child, Dakota.  To learn more about K-pop, visit https://en.wikipedia.org  At this time, no K-Pop was played in America.  It was also a very challenging time because the world was in the middle of a pandemic. (COVID 19)  Another breathtaking attribute is that Aces has also practiced as an Oracle.  To learn more about the work an Oracle carries out, visit https://www.merriam-webster.com  Visit also https://www.dictionary.cambridge.org This is another fascinating, heart-warming and personal story.  It is the powerful personal story about a wonderful human:  Aces Fox’s life journey.  So, tune into this truly sensational episode of The I in Us, learn and enjoy. Anita Deutsch

The I in Us this week welcomes as special guest, Tasmanian-born Anita Deutsch from Melbourne, to the JOY airwaves.  Anita is raising not one, but three gorgeous boys; all of whom have XXY sex chromosomes.  The condition is also known as Klinefelter’s Syndrome.  Also, Paul’s very special guest co-host on the program is the fabulous Simone-Lisa Anderson from Tasmania.  So join in another exciting and educational hour with phenomenal host, Paul, as he brings to the airwaves another  enthralling episode.   Klinefelter’s Syndrome(XXY Syndrome/47XXY) Klinefelter’s Syndrome, also known as XXY or 47XXY Syndrome, occurs as a result of a random generic error after conception.  It is a genetic condition in which a male is born with an extra copy of the X chromosone.  Thereby, males born with Klinefelter’s may have low testosterone levels, reduced muscle mass, facial and body hair.  (For more information regarding this condition, visit:  https://www. en.wikipedia.org/klinefelter’s syndrome, https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/klinefelter’s syndrome, https://www.mayoclinic.com/klinefelter’s syndrome.)   Hear more about this condition, rarely found in three children born to the same parents. Anita Deutsch On this episode of The I in Us, Anita Deutsch  shares how her eldest boy, plus her twin boys, all have Klinefelter’s Syndrome.  Although Klinefelter’s Syndrome occurs in one in five hundred male children, Anita explains that it is very rare to have three children with the same intersex variation.  She thus shares a wealth of information and knowledge, based on her personal experience of raising three children with variations of sex characteristics.  (Should any part of this program be found to be triggering, please visit for support, https://www.joy.org.au/support). Also discussed on The I in Us  this week is an apparent need for Klinefelter’s(XXY/47XXY) children to have access to the NDIS.  Such access would prove hugely beneficial in dealing with cognitive and developmental challenges.  Access to speech, occupational and physio therapy, would be hugely beneficial to address developmental delays present from birth.  Plus, these services would also assist Klinefelter’s children with challenges experienced going through school. Paul highlights next week’s episode of The I in Us with special guest Anastasia Fox.  So, don’t forget to tune into The I in Us next Wednesday for another most interesting conversation.   To find out more about overall intersex support, visit https://www.isupport.org.au.  For resources, visit https://www.ihra.org.au.  For X and Y Spectrum support, visit https://www.access.org.au. Ly Baumgardt

The I in Us welcomes special guest, Ly Baumgardt from Minnesota, USA,  to this week’s gripping program.  The amazing award-winning Margie McCumstie is this week’s special co-host.  Paul and Margie chat to Ly about his valuable contribution to the Intersex and Trans communities.  Tune into this  inspiring episode, for what will be a delightful, enthusiastic and fun conversation.   Ly Baumgardt Ly Baumgardt tells The I in Us about his background and current undertakings. He identifies as a trans and intersex anti-Zionist Jewish activist.  Ly enjoys rollerskating, yelling through a bullhorn, and scaring himself with mediocre ghost stories.  He learned he is intersex at fifteen years of age.  Ly had already started doing queer activism at the young age of twelve. Further, by age fourteen he was working in not-for-profit capacities. TIGERRS and MNTIRN Plus, at age seventeen Ly co-founded TIGERRS where he is currently the Intersex co-ordinator.(https://www.tigerrs.org)  Later, Ly also founded MNTIRN (Minnesota Trans and Intersex Resource Network), and the Minnesota Trans Resource Directory.  He wrote the booklet:  I Think I May be Intersex.  This booklet is for folks questioning if they have an intersex variation.  It includes common intersex symptoms, tips on self-advocacy and information on testing options.(https://www.tigerrs.org/intersex-resources).  Ly explains the importance of TIGERRS to the hosts on The I in Us.  TIGERRS is a very comprehensive list of resources especially for trans folks , as well as others coming to Minnesota.  It is operated mainly by volunteers and funded by grants, donations and fundraising events.  MNTIRN is a group which collaborates between local LGBTIQA+ organizations and individuals who assist Trans and Intersex folks coming to Minnesota.(https://www.mntirnetwork.org).   Ly concludes his interview on The I in Us emphasizing that, in future,  intersex individuals will not have to explain themselves.  Intersex people will be understood and accepted.  He aims to continue introducing resources and getting material passed legislatively.  Overall, Ly intends that, with more resources educating parents and doctors about intersex variations, unnecessary surgeries will decrease.  Such an informative and educational episode you truly cannot afford to miss. The I in Us: Esther Morris Leidolf

The I in Us welcomes special guest, Esther Leidolf from the USA to the program.   The phenomenal host Paul, and Esther, discuss intersex and Esther’s personal journey and involvement in the intersex community.  Come, tune into this extremely powerful episode. Esther’s Background Esther Morris Leidolf tells The I in Us that she was once a carpenter.  She became a gender activist when she discovered others had MRKH Syndrome.  Additionally, Esther is an intersex advocate and writer; with a background in public health data management.  She is known internationally for the founding of the MRKH(Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser sydrome) organization. (https://www.mrkh.org).  Esther was also Board Secretary for the Intersex Society of North America.(https://www.isna.org)  and a renowned author.  She wrote “Not Uncommon, Just Unheard Of”  and “The Missing Vagina Monologue”.   Also, Esther is currently collaborating with a playwright who is writing a a screen play of “The Missing Vagina Monologue”.   Esther’s Current Activities The MRKH is a resource for women with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome and their medical providers.  She networks with doctors and women with MRKH in the Boston area; and visits local colleges and universities to talk about her own experience.  She has been interviewed on Gender Talk Radio and presented at Transcending Boundaries and at the LGBTI Health Summit(Boulder 2002).  Currently, Esther is completing her degree in Society and Health at Simmons College and works at Fenway Research Institute in Boston.   Esther’s Viewpoint Esther Morris Leidolf explains to The I in Us that we need to change the way we think about intersex.   That is, intersex needs to be thought about as intersex diversities -not intersex disorders.  We need to stop ‘medicalizing’ people’s bodies.  We need to stop people into ‘binary norms’.  Thus there is a need to explore everything that exists between the far polarized ends of male and female on the binary scale. So, this episode of The I in Us is a truly educational and captivating episode you really don’t want to miss. (https://www.joy.org/theiinus) ENJOY!
