Drawing Inspiration From Your Own Work/ William Kidd

Working Artists! You are not alone! Listen to these entertaining and inspirational podcast conversations with working artists.

William Kidd taught high school ceramics for 30 years while simultaneously pursuing his career as a professional artist. Bill credits his stable income with allowing him to create the work he wanted to make without the pressure of having to sell. He describes how his nature-based work has evolved to the point that the inspiration for his new work emanates from his own finished pieces. Describing himself as a humble potter, Bill Kidd says he "no longer has anything to prove to himself," and limits the proximity of his show travels to his home state of Florida. A rock star in our community and a conversation you won't want to miss.

Visual artists Douglas Sigwarth https://www.sigwarthglass.com/ and Will Armstrong http://www.willarmstrongart.com/ co-host and discuss topics affecting working artists. Each episode is a deep dive into a conversation with a guest artist who shares their unique experiences as an independent professional artist.

    Paying Your Dues/ Christopher Jeffries

    Paying Your Dues/ Christopher Jeffries

Working Artists! You are not alone! Listen to these entertaining and inspirational podcast conversations with working artists.

When Christopher Jefferies caught the glassblowing bug in high school, he charted a course that would ultimately result in building his own glass shop by "paying his dues." From working on Dale Chihuly's team to sleeping on the floor of a Czech hot shop, Christopher immersed himself in the fast-paced environment of production glass studios that created hundreds of pieces daily. Once he launched his own studio, his work evolved into multiple-element wall installations on a large scale. Christopher talks about going after those "big fish" on the art festival scene and how he navigates his unique career.

Less Answers, More Questions/ Matthew Naftzger

Working Artists! You are not alone! Listen to these entertaining and inspirational podcast conversations with working artists.

Step into the mind of Matthew Naftzger! "Stubborn!" he says, "I don't want to work in a s****y job just to pay for an expensive house. I don't even want to make artwork I don't want to make." Living and working out of a box truck or buying abandoned houses to renovate are ways he feels free. In his pursuit of "choosing a life," Matthew describes how he has adapted his behavior to how his brain works. Discovering as an adult that he experiences ADHD brought into focus the "self-taught mechanisms" he's used to convert "circular thinking to linear thinking." Matthew is an artist who works in various mediums, such as metal sculpture, jewelry, and painting. This conversation shares his experiences with mental health while listening to the universe along the way. https://matthew.works/

Once they embraced that being trans was indeed their superpower, Cammy's ultimate goals have shifted to include saving the lives of trans people through their artwork and as a role model by being their most authentic self.  A powerful conversation that will inspire you to be a kind human and an ally to anyone struggling to be their best self. Tons of fun, with a heap of solid info

This podcast is in my top five. Will and Douglas know how to dig into the juice of the traveling artist’s life. It’s a joy to listen to, and it really helps pass the time while driving to a show or mowing the lawn. I can tell you I hate mowing the lawn so this is a real savior. Thanks Will and Douglas, I’m hooked!
