Proposing Your Book to Publishers with Allison Lane and Miriam Schulman

Proposing Your Book to Publishers with Allison Lane and Miriam Schulman

If you’ve been on the fence about publishing a book and overwhelmed about what goes into it, then this episode is going to answer many of your questions.
I have to admit, getting my book traditionally published was not as simple as I thought it would be, but I have no regrets about the journey.
Allison Lane helps people get published by guiding them through the process of writing a proposal to secure a book agent and ultimately get a publishing contract. I feel lucky to have had her guidance preparing my own book proposal for Artpreneur.
“The book proposal becomes the anchor to every author's marketing ecosystem.” -Allison Lane
We’re peeling back the layers of the marketing it takes to create a book proposal and what goes into pitching it. There are a number of areas you can get wrong attempting this process on your own, and Allison simplifies the process for you because of her marketing background.
Key insights we discuss about book proposals:
Your book proposal is an important marketing document that requires skill to pitch and is used even after the book is published  How the right book comps in your book proposal are key for the editor to see what audiences your book can be marketed to  Writing a captivating hook for the book proposal is a challenge when you don’t keep in mind who is reading it and for what purpose.  Be your best marketer by giving people access to you and how you and your work makes them feel  Pitching a book takes lots of specialized skills, industry knowledge, and effort. If I had chosen the self-publishing route, it would have been a much different experience, but it would’ve also turned out to be a much different book. Regardless of the route you decide to go, don’t be afraid to write your story and share it with the world.
“Words really matter and understanding who the end recipient of those words are is really about empathy and understanding, all communication strategy is.” -Allison Lane

She Builds with Jadah Sellner and Miriam Schulman

She Builds with Jadah Sellner and Miriam Schulman

You can build a successful business around your art and creative work without sacrificing what matters to you. Relationships, time for yourself, and space for creativity don’t need to be lost to hustle culture and burnout.
My guest today, Jadah Sellner, has built several successful companies and has experienced the burnout that is not sustainable. Now she helps women unleash their creativity, intuition and purpose through her books, her podcast, and coaching.
In this episode, we’re sharing just a few of the many golden lessons Jadah has in her latest book called She Builds. She values allowing yourself to follow your own intuitive path to create and build your own meaningful life.
“ Give ourselves permission to build a business from a place of love.” -Jadah Sellner
Lessons we discuss from Jadah’s book:
Move from strictly obsessive passion into a harmonious passion to avoid burnout  Toxic productivity and that constant feel of not enoughness are signs to slow down 3 kinds of mastermind support group buckets you need to excel in your journey Writing a letter to your future yourself is meant to set the vision and intention   There are so many more lessons we didn't have the time to cover. She shares her wisdom and insights into things like high functioning anxiety, the cycle of fear, having calendar bodyguards and more in her book. The narrative around hustle culture is that it’s sexy and something to strive for and wear like a badge of honor. Jadah is breaking that narrative apart and refocusing on how to create a fuller, more meaningful life with room for success and love.
“Make space and time to dream about what it is that you want to create.” - Jadah Sellner

Leading with Your Inner Weirdo: A Conversation with Theresa Pridemore

Leading with Your Inner Weirdo: A Conversation with Theresa Pridemore

Embrace your inner weirdo and create beautiful art. The best art in this world is created by us weirdos. The word, weird, hasn’t always had negative connotations and carries so much more meaning that we give to it.
This time around, Theresa Pridemore is interviewing me. Listen and get ready to feel charged to create the art that only you can.
“When you’re embracing the weird you are embracing your destiny.” -Miriam Schulman
Today I’m sharing the key ideas you need to embrace your inner weirdo and give space for all the weird creativity you have to come out.
    What we’re discussing:
9 steps you need to create your signature brand and style Standing out is the key to getting noticed and distinguishing yourself Don’t be afraid to amplify your imperfections and lean into your own style  The idea for this conversation is directly from Chapter 6 of my newest book, Artpreneur, which is your guide to turning your creative ideas into a business that sustains the life you want to live. Nurturing your inner weirdo and giving it the space and opportunity to distinguish you is one of the biggest gifts you can give to yourself.
You don’t have to be worried about getting it right all the time.  You don’t need to be consumed with people pleasing to the extent that you no longer have a voice or a style.
“Give yourself permission to turn some people off.” - Theresa Pridemore

232: You Don't Have to Sell Art In Person with Marianne Nielsen

232: You Don't Have to Sell Art In Person with Marianne Nielsen

Trying to earn a sustainable income from selling your art is never comfortable, but it’s always worth it. The push back I hear most often from artists is selling art through social media, doing shows in person, or getting their art into a gallery.
I want you to know that you don’t have the sell art in person to be successful, there are many options available, but you do have to pick something.
I’ve asked Marianne Nielsen to join us because she’s had the same aversion to selling in person and has found a way around it that is more natural and in flow with her and her art style.
“You have to do something, and then what you're doing, you have to lean into it really hard.” -Miriam Schulman
I want you to consider what methods of marketing and selling your art you’ve been most resistant to and what you could push yourself to try. Being uncomfortable is a part of your growth and journey as an artist and as a person.
Key ideas and thoughts we’re discussing:
Nurturing and growing your email list isn’t as scary as you think  The trick Marianne uses to get a 60% open rate on her emails  How Marianne is using Pinterest to grow her email list and get 200k+ visitors Our reaction to Benjamin Moore’s color of the year for 2023  Marianne paints abstract art intuitively from her dining room overlooking the forest through the window, moved and inspired by her emotional state and mindset in the moment. As uncomfortable as she was to sending weekly emails, through my incubator program she allowed herself the discomfort and trusted the process. Selling art in person isn’t the only option, and between Marianne’s email list and Pinterest, there is inspiration for you to uncover what will work for you.
“Painting has been a huge emotional healing process for me, and it still is, [...] It taught me so much about myself.” - Marianne H. Nielsen

[ARTPRENEUR CAFE] Exclusive Invite to Join the Book Launch Team

[ARTPRENEUR CAFE] Exclusive Invite to Join the Book Launch Team

In the beginning of 2020, I decided I wanted to write a book. The vision wasn’t completely clear about how that book would take shape, but when we all went on lockdown in March 2020, I thought a lot about creatives like you.
So although I had stories I wanted to tell about my own journey, I also wanted to HELP as many people as I could in a really impactful way to leave a legacy behind.
That's why I didn't just want to but NEEDED to write my new book: Artpreneur: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity.
On the surface, it's about building an art business, but dig a little deeper and you’ll discover it's really about a self-development book (because building an art business is the BEST self-development work you'll ever do).
Since you have been such an incredible part of this community by being a loyal listener, I would love your help spreading the word about Artpreneur.
That's why you're invited to an exclusive book launch team just for creatives. We're saving spots for about one hundred artists to join #ArtpreneurCafe -- and you've got FIRST DIBS!
If you're thinking "that sounds great Miriam, but what's all involved?" well, it's really simple. All I ask is that you pre-order the book in ANY format from any bookseller and email the receipt to miriam@theinspirationplace.net. Then, we’ll make sure that you get access to read Artpreneur EARLY so you can leave honest reviews wherever books are sold and share the message of this book far and wide with other creatives.
Now, there’s a lot more to this than just getting the advance copy, so buckle up. I get that you’re busy and just offering the opportunity to promote me is a big ask, so as an #ArtpreneurCafe member you get access to some pretty incredible perks:
✅ A F-R-E-E Advance Copy of Artpreneur: You’ll get access to all the art biz and mindset lessons that are baked into my new book before anyone else.
✅ Access to ALL Pre-Order Bonuses: Every book bonus I create is all yours! If you missed the 411 on that, there’s the Artpreneur Affirmations video series, one for each chapter in the book where you can watch me in my art journal and get bonus Artpreneur content. You'll also get 3 live mastermind q+a calls with me, BUT if you join the Café, you’ll get
✅ An Exclusive Mastermind + Q&A with Yours Truly: As a big thank you for helping me share Artpreneur with the world, I'll be hosting an exclusive live event for #ArtpreneurCafe members.
✅ The Artpreneur Café Handbook: I've got ideas on how to turn the book promo into content, because it's not about me. It's about helping you and your audience!
✅ Instagram Live: I'm saving spots on my calendar to promote YOU on my Instagram channel!
✅ Access to Our Incredible #ArtpreneurCafe Community: Come meet a community of like-minded artists ready to kick starving artist syndrome to the curb.
✅ The Artpreneur BOOK CLUB! Happening inside Artpreneur Café Community.
    + So much more!

    Wondering what’s involved?
I want to make this as easy as possible for YOU. There are just 3 simple steps:
STEP [1] Pre-order Artpreneur: Choose any retailer you prefer: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or your favorite local indie bookshop, wherever you want. (Fr-ee worldwide shipping is available from Book Depository)
STEP [2] Take a screenshot of your book order receipt and email it to miriam@theinspirationplace.net
STEP [3] We'll send you exclusive access to a digital version so that you can read Artpreneur early !!

We'll make sure you get all the bonus goodies and invites to private groups and calls. Yep, just for pre-ordering Artpreneur and sharing the 💜!

Manifest Your Wildest Dreams with Miriam Schulman

Manifest Your Wildest Dreams with Miriam Schulman

You can manifest your wildest dreams even in your everyday life. What makes manifestation real is your ability and willingness to believe.
You need to believe and visualize what you want to bring it into your conscious awareness. -Miriam Schulman
What we’re exploring in this episode:
How you sabotage yourself when you’re not willing to believe When you get clear with what you want, you’ll be able to call it into your conscious awareness. How to open your mind to recognize when what you want comes your way[Text Wrapping Break]  We block our ability to manifest through a lack of belief. We don’t believe in ourselves. We don’t believe what’s really possible. We stand so firm on the very beliefs we should be questioning and end up undermining our own success.
The universe will bring you things when you get clear about what you want and the opportunities you’re looking for. You need positive belief and an open mind to recognize it when it comes your way.
