ENCORE: Why Marketing and Mindset Trump Talent
I’m sure you’ve seen less talented people rise to the top while those with the talent don’t. It’s baffling and might even seem unfair. But what if I tell you that it’s all in the marketing?
In this episode, we discuss how marketing and mindset play important roles in your success, even more than talent. I talk about how famous artists (yes, even those from hundreds of years ago) utilized marketing to sell their art. And I even share personal stories where I saw and experienced how consistency led to better results than talent.
“I do believe anyone can be an artist. However, you need to develop the right mindset and learn the skills and techniques to get the results you want.” - Miriam Schulman
Why are marketing and mindset so important? Is talent still important? Here are the three thoughts I share that I want you to take home:
You need to learn marketing to be able to share and sell your art
Mindset is more important than marketing because marketing won’t work well without the right mindset behind it
Consistent effort over time trumps talent. All the time
“If you want to think like a famous artist, marketing matters.” - Miriam Schulman
I know it can be discouraging to see child prodigies paraded in the media or look at the works of the great masters and feel like we’ll never achieve what they did. I know that it can be baffling to see not-so-great art sell for a lot of money. But once you learn that it’s not just about the art, you can achieve your goal. Once you develop the mindset, learn the skills, and put in the effort, you’ll be surprised by what you can achieve.

Create More Collectors, Not Content
Are you ready to shatter the myth that creating endless content will skyrocket your art career? Brace yourself because, in this episode, I'm about to reveal the uncomfortable truth about what really drives sales for artists – and it's not what you think.
“When planning our studio time, 20 hours a week or 4 hours a day should be your maximum. Any more than that, you're burning yourself out in ways that isn't helpful to your artistic practice.”- Miriam Schulman
In this podcast, you’ll discover… The foundation of a successful art business relies on mastering the skill of selling.
The need to shift attention from creating endless content to actively building relationships and engaging with potential collectors. By dedicating time to meet people, share your art, and make offers, you can create genuine connections that lead to sales.
Successful art business growth involves embracing the vulnerability of rejection and putting oneself out there.
“You need to focus on getting out there and creating collectors. That's what your time needs to be spent on.”- Miriam Schulman

Who You Are Always Wins ft Ashley Stahl
Are you tired of the conventional career advice that promises a one-size-fits-all path to success? Get ready to challenge the status quo, shatter limitations, and discover a world where trial, error, and embracing uncertainty lead to triumph. Ashley Stahl, a counterterrorism professional turned career coach, speaker, and author of You-Turn, joins us for an impactful conversation on navigating career switch-ups and embarking on creative endeavors with no roadmap. If you've ever questioned your direction, felt the urge to explore new avenues, or wondered if unconventional could be the key to exceptional, this episode is your ultimate compass.
“Don't do what you love. Don't follow your passion. Do what you are. What I'm really saying is, what's your zone of genius?”- Ashley Stahl
In this podcast, you’ll discover… Embracing trial and error is essential both in your career and creative pursuits. It's okay not to have all the answers upfront, and experimentation is a natural part of growth and success.
Focus on what skills come naturally to you and contribute to your unique energy. Consider the alignment between your work and your core values. If the work violates your values, it's important to reassess and pivot.
Be open to transition and adaptation, be willing to learn from both successes and failures, and remember that there are many paths and iterations to your growth and fulfillment.
“Happiness is not for the faint of heart. It's for the person that knows how to say no. It's for the person that knows how to get messy. We are being way too perfect in our career. We have way too much shame around the process of learning.”- Ashley Stahl

Helping Creatives live Passionate, Aligned and Abundant Lives
I am so grateful for this podcast!
Miriam is such a brilliant, creative and dedicated guide! Each episode is packed with so much wisdom and practical advice to help creatives live passionate, aligned and abundant lives💛
Logical, practical and magical!
Inspiration hardly covers what I get from listening to this podcast. I stumbled upon Miriam’s words early this summer and listened to almost the entire library of episodes throughout the summer months while painting in my studio. Everything about this podcast is relatable to me. It’s as if Miriam is in my head and sorting through my thoughts of confusion and answering questions I’ve had rattling around for years. Her pure logic with a touch “woo woo” is exactly what I needed. I subsequently ordered her book and read it cover to cover the week before a show. Lo and behold, armed with my new mindset, I sold a $1000 painting! Thank you Miriam..I know this is just the beginning! @gypsyfishstudio
