#025: "Who Said We Had to Go to Mars?", Featured Presentation at the 2018 Southern Textile Association Summer Marketing Forum by Ben Cooper

In this episode of The IoClothes Podcast, we’ll be sharing a featured presentation Ben Cooper recently gave at the 2018 Southern Textile Association Summer Marketing Forum in Belmont, North Carolina. The title of my talk, “Who Said We Had to Go to Mars?”. During the presentation, we discuss a common perception that innovation has to be grand and audacious. In some instances, that is certainly the case but the reality is that it sits on a spectrum. The false narrative that innovation needs to disrupt an entire industry is usually how and why programs crash and burn. We discuss what the spirit of innovation really means, and how everyone can start being innovative today!

    Enjoy!

In this episode of The IoClothes Podcast, we speak with Gerry Elman, Principal of Elman Technology Law. When we’re building product, some time the legal strategy can seem like an after-thought. It shouldn’t be. It’s as integral as the product or systems you’re building themselves! We discuss with Gerry some of the considerations to be made as we navigate the legal mine field. He also shares an important ruling made by the US Supreme Court (Alice Corporation vs CLS Bank International) on what is patent eligible in this computer information age.

#022: Changing an Industry Comes from Incubating Great Ideas with Jackie Trebilcock, Managing Director, NY Fashion Tech Lab - We speak with the thought-leaders and innovators leading the smart apparel, footwear and textile revolution.

In this episode of The IoClothes Podcast, we speak with Hello everyone and welcome. I am your host Ben Cooper, and today we’ll be speaking with Jackie Trebilcock, Managing Director of the New York Fashion Tech Lab. As we’ve said in the past, the players necessary to usher in the future of a digitally connected future are diverse. This week speak with Jackie about what The New York Fashion Tech Lab is doing to build community, develop relationships and created a business development platform. Interestingly, their program focuses on women-led fashion technology start-ups innovating at the intersection of fashion, retail, and technology.

In this episode we won’t be talking about product but another important piece to equation as companies look to build “smarter” businesses.

#021: Light May Be The Answer To Making Textiles “Smart” with H. Lee Wainwright - Wearable Tech 2.0 is here! We speak with the thought-leaders and innovators leading the smart apparel, footwear and textile revolution.

#021: Light May Be The Answer To Making Textiles “Smart” with H. Lee Wainwright - Wearable Tech 2.0 is here! We speak with the thought-leaders and innovators leading the smart apparel, footwear and textile revolution.

In this episode of The IoClothes Podcast, we speak with inventor and e-textiles pioneer, H. Lee Wainwright. With the absolute utmost of respect, he’s a mad scientist! This was one of the most interesting and unique conversations I’ve had in the e-textiles world, and the demo I was shown stuck with me for a very long while after. The best way I can describe what I witness was a cross between an E.T. figure and an elaborate Christmas tree. Listen, Lee has been in the business for a while and led some incredible initiatives, from illuminating outfits that Britney Spears wore during her world tours to auction items showcased on the Rosie O’Donnell Show to projects with Disney and much more!

The focus of our conversation is on his new Opti-Coupler™, which at its core is a fiber-optic technology. What’s also interesting is Lee is inviting developers and fellow inventors to source the material of his system and collaborate!

Hold on and listen up because this just may be the solution to your challenges!

For more information on Lee, check out his website at www.hleewainwright.com

#020: When Sound First Started Traveling Through Textiles with Steve Leftly, Founder of Myovolt - Wearable Tech 2.0 is here! We speak with the thought-leaders and innovators leading the smart apparel, footwear and textile revolution.

In this episode of The IoClothes Podcast, we had the tremendous honor and privilege of speaking with another luminary of the smart textiles world, Steve Leftly, Founder of Myovolt. To give some context: At the same time Stacey Burr and her team were working on cutting-edge innovations in the smart textiles space in the US, Steve and his teams at Softswitch and Fibretronic were on the other side of the world, New Zealand and the UK, also exploring the limits of smart textiles)! In this episode, not only do we get a history lesson, we also hear a fun story about how Steve Jobs, of Apple, used one of their projects on stage during the first generation launch of the iPod.

We also learn about what he’s doing now with Myovolt, and how he sees the industry evolving.

For more information on Myovolt, check out their website at www.myovolt.com, and follow them on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter @myovolt
