I'm Jennifer Carole and I am the Lawyer's Daughter. My dad (a lawyer) and my stepmom were murdered in March 1980 in Ventura, California. Through cold case detective work and DNA, our crime was linked to the notorious Golden State Killer. The pod includes real-time reporting and memories. I'll podcast during his preliminary trial in May 2020. It's just me so I'll be using a live, radio-style of podcasting. Feedback always welcome!

I apologize in advance, the audio isn't the best, but hopefully, my enthusiasm will shine through. I promise to get some help before I record again. This episode marks the five-year anniversary of DeAngelo's arrest. I cannot believe how fast time has passed. Sprinkle some Covid into the mix, and I guess we have an excuse. So wonderful to talk with you again. More soon!

Sep 24, 2020 | Cuties Controversy: The Danger of Sexualizing Young Girls

The controversy over the movie Cuties missed the point. While Netflix hopelessly botched the marketing of the movie in the United States, the reality is the director made the movie to address the way we sexualize our young girls. It's a problem we need to address and it's possible watching this movie will start the conversation. Watch the film and then let me know what you think! Episode 59 | September 24, 2020

Valuable perspective

Jen, I love hearing your experience. I sought out your podcast because I wanted to learn more about who you, your family, your dad & Charlene are as human beings. Too often, that is overlooked in the media frenzy. Thank you for putting this together and taking us along for ride. Much love & support to you

Fascinating and Genuine

As others have said, Jen’s warm and open personality draws you into a discussion that feels like you could be having one on one. I cannot imagine how painful this experience must be for her and her family, but she invites us along to learn about her family and this entire journey, often in real-time. Her truth, sincerity, and curiosity are tools that create an environment that celebrates and emphasizes the humanity of the victims in this case, but also tells a powerful story of family and the intergenerational dynamics that are constantly unraveling mysteries and insights that transcend the specifics of this case. It’s easy to feel like you’re right alongside her as she goes back in time to explore her own feelings toward and understanding of not just the events of the murder itself but the complicated people whose lives were upended and the strength of relationships that never stop growing.

Thank you, Jen, for allowing us on this journey with you.

Host Seems Unstable

Host (daughter) seems unstable. Just specifically based on the most recent episode re: Holes speculation is so ridiculous and OTT. I get the photo of the two of them in bed being jarring and horribly unsettling. However, Holes made a speculative theory. BFD. It’s one theory. As a viewer, I heard it, thought it was sad, and didn’t think of it again.
As a relative and survivor of a murder in my family that resulted in a national court case (more than one), I know there is pain and long term consequences but the host is being a narcissistic nutball. It’s truly not about you. Nobody is trying to hurt you.
