Customer Reviews
Very very helpful AND spiritual
I have been a listener and subscriber for many years and this review is long overdue. This podcast is an outstanding resource for Catholic church musicians, singers, and regular "people in pews". Ken, your host, is a musician and composer himself, but more importantly is deeply educated and familiar with the theology of the church. He begins each podcast with a detailed description of the proscribed readings and antiphons from the church's calendar, and then recommends music that will enrich the experience of these readings and be in the proper context. His music recommendations range from ancient hymns and texts ("Of the Father's Love Begotten") to folk-mass classics ("Table of Plenty") and finally to all the latest compositions from contemporary writers like Sarah Hart and Tom Booth. As others have pointed out he also plays, in full, the weekly Psalm setting and Entrance/Communion antiphons from the recently-published OCP resources Spirit & Psalm and Let Us All Rejoice. All of this is delivered by Ken in a relaxed, folksy style that's easily accessible. THANK YOU KEN and OCP for this excellent resource!
Great resource
I love listening to this podcast to hear music and ideas before I plan music for Mass. As a plus, this podcast also keeps my one year old very happy in the car, so sometimes we listen to episodes multiple times.
Good and Bad
It’s the only place to hear the studio recorded Spirit and Psalm psalms, so that’s nice.
But most of the music that they recommend is really just poor quality OCP modern songs that are not good at all.
Do your own research and don’t limit your selections to OCP.
