The Lurid Family

I’ve gone every episode twice now and I’m still crossing my fingers for a comeback. Hilarious, wise takes on VC Andrews, feminism, and the gothic horror that is girlhood.

I am really enjoying this podcast so much. The ladies remind me so much of the ‘Teen Creeps’ podcast; similar speech patterns, similar views on characters and storytelling. The difference between them is this is an entire podcast dedicated to V.C. Andrews instead of only a few episodes. I read the main V.C.Andrews books back in the late 1980s after my mom brought home “Heaven” and the only thing she said about it was “That poor little girl.” Which of course piqued my interest and I stayed up all night on a school night (I was 12 years old at the time) to finish it and I remember bawling my eyes out over the selling of Keith and Our Jane and after that I moved on to the rest of the Heaven series and then the Dollanganger series, (which I still have complete paragraphs and dialogue running through my mind, popping up at random times lol), and then My Sweet Audrina. I read a few of the other series later on as an adult; Dawn, Rain, etc, but none of them really captured that same dark magic of the first two series. I also love how the one girl on here says “boobs” like “bewbs”.

Love this podcast! Funny and insightful, listening to your recaps and discussions of V.C. Andrews makes my commute better! Looking forward to when the next episodes are released!

The topic is good and it’s fun to listen to the recaps, but the horrible audio quality is so distracting. I also don’t like that one host constantly talks over and interrupts the other.
