    In 2002, as a teenager in New Mexico, Alana Nichols suffered a spinal cord injury while attempting a backflip on a snowboard. Rather than give up her love of sports, she transitioned to adaptive sports.
    She inspired many by becoming the first American female to win gold medals in both the Summer (Wheelchair Basketball) and Winter (Alpine Skiing) in the Paralympic Games.
    She is an advocate for disabled athletes and women and is one of the most inspirational people you will meet.

    Leslie Maxie is a 1988 U.S. Olympian, former world record holder in the 400-meter hurdles, and a media professional who has excelled at her craft at ESPN and FoxSports.
    Her success has not come without its share of hardships, and Leslie now embraces her role as an inspiration to those overcoming challenges in life. She draws strength from her faith, her mentors and believes that “excellence is not an accident.”

She was inspired to start a namesake school in California to promote STEM education for young girls and boys. In 2022, a statue was raised in her memory at The Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island.
