From Microgravity to Microbiomes: The Interstellar Journey With The Scientist Fathi Karouia

Hello and Welcome to the Microbiome Maverick Podcast, the only place where microbiome science meets real-world applications. I am your host Dr. Amine Zorgani, a microbiome expert on a mission to prevent the human microbiome from extinction! In this episode, we have the pleasure of speaking with Fathi Karouia, Senior Research Scientist @NASA | Space Life Science Subject Matter Expert | Consultant | Entrepreneur and a Speaker whose work combines two of the most intriguing subjects on our planet: space and microbiomes. Fathi shares his insights into the complex interactions between microbes and the harsh environment of space, and how this research not only contributes to our understanding of space exploration but also has practical applications here on Earth. Fathi's team discovered that bacteria grow faster, are more resistant to stress and antibiotics, and tend to form biofilms in microgravity conditions. Remarkably, a strain of Bacillus pumilus was found to be 1000 times more resistant to UV radiation than other strains, even surviving exposure outside the International Space Station for 18 months. Wow! Just that! Enjoy the episode, and please follow and share! Happy to hear your thoughts and stay positive! From Diabetes to Dementia: A Gut Microbiome Exploration With Dr Hariom Yadav

Hello and Welcome to the Microbiome Maverick Podcast, the only place where microbiome science meets real-world applications. I am your host Dr. Amine Zorgani, a microbiome expert on a mission to prevent the human microbiome from extinction! In this new episode, I have the pleasure of speaking to Dr. Hariom Yadav, Director of University of south Florida center of Microbiome Research. Dr. Hariom is a leading expert in the field of gut microbiome research, with a particular focus on its role in diabetes, aging, and cognitive function. His work has led to significant discoveries in understanding the intricate relationship between diet, gut health, and chronic diseases. Dr. Hariom's research has revealed that the gut microbiome plays a crucial role in regulating gut permeability, also known as "leaky gut." His study demonstrated that transferring the microbiome from obese mice to lean mice induced leaky gut and inflammation, leading to insulin resistance and increased risk of type 2 diabetes. This finding underscores the importance of maintaining a healthy gut microbiome through proper diet and lifestyle choices. Furthermore, Dr. Hariom's work explores the gut-brain axis. He emphasizes that the gut harbors as many neurons as the brain, and imbalances in the gut microbiome can contribute to cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disorders. His research aims to develop microbiome-based biomarkers to predict the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, potentially leading to early intervention strategies. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Hariom has co-founded a company called PostBiotics Inc., which focuses on developing postbiotic-based solutions for reducing leaky gut and inflammation. His innovative approach targets the cellular components of beneficial bacteria, rather than relying solely on live probiotics. This technology has shown promising results in animal studies, demonstrating its potential to improve muscle health, metabolic function, and overall longevity. Enjoy the episode, and please follow and share! Happy to hear your thoughts and stay positive! 5. Why Prebiotic Whole Foods May Be the Missing Health Link – David Istier @Gutzy

Why Prebiotic Whole Foods May Be the Missing Health Link – David Istier @Gutzy

Hello and Welcome to the Microbiome Maverick Podcast, the only place where microbiome science meets real-world applications. I am your host Dr. Amine Zorgani, a microbiome expert on a mission to prevent the human microbiome from extinction! Today, I have the pleasure of speaking to David Istier, founder of Gutsy, about the important role of prebiotics for gut and overall health. My first key takeaway is that prebiotics offer an accessible way to improve health. While found naturally in fruits, veggies, and other plant foods, most Americans fall short of getting enough. David started Gutsy to provide an easy prebiotic snack to help bridge nutritional gaps. Additionally, not all prebiotics are the same. Gutsy focuses on organic acacia fiber which research shows selectively feeds good bacteria. Acacia also supports digestive health, immunity, energy levels, and more. It's a simple change that can yield real benefits. Finally, good gut health starts early. Establishing a fiber-rich diet in childhood supports microbiome diversity and lifelong wellbeing. Gutsy caters to adults and kids alike. As David shared, "Eating for good health is eating for the pleasure towards the vitality and energy to live our best life." Enjoy the episode, and please follow and share! Happy to hear your thoughts and stay positive!
